THERE WILL BE A CATEGORICAL UPGRADE FROM A SLIGHT TO MODERATE RISK
OVER CNTRL-ERN KS AND FAR WRN MO FOR THE UPCOMING 1300Z DAY 1
CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK. CONFIDENCE HAS INCREASED REGARDING A GREATER
THREAT FOR SUPERCELLS POTENTIALLY CAPABLE OF A FEW STRONG TORNADOES
AND LARGE DESTRUCTIVE HAIL ACROSS THE MODERATE RISK AREA.

Re: Risk for Strong Tornadoes across Kansas and Missouri Today
Surface low currently at 996mb with good low-level moisture transport from the GOM.

[link to www.spc.noaa.gov]

Moderate CAPE - currently capped.

Need to watch cloud cover. If they break up late morning / early afternoon, then surface heating could really do well in popping the cap and could then see explosive cell development.

Pretty good shear directional change from 850 to 500mb.

Already a Strong Significant Tornado Parameter in northern OK but capped.

Once the cap breaks and a squall line forms along the dryline, it could get very nasty as it moves into the STP ridge.

Stay tuned; might see a PDS later on if helicity picks up some.

This is the one year anniversary of the tornadoes that killed over 250 in Alabama just last year.

Very sad day and just about everybody knows somebody who died that day.
One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one.

Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.

Re: Risk for Strong Tornadoes across Kansas and Missouri Today
I am sitting just South of KC.
Looking like a VERY NARROW window for the possibility of severe weather here. Warm front currently in middle Kansas with cold front right behind it. Between 7-9pm the warm front looks to clear KC with the cold front shutting the door on severe weather at 10pm to midnight.

I think the SPC is underestimating the wind threat and overplaying the tornado threat a wee bit. A Derecho could easily form with these conditions.
