So TEPCO is saying it will resist a magnitude 6 quake, if I read that correctly? So what if they're hit by a magnitude 7 quake?

Magnitude?

Doubtful it is, because there are two Types of Magnitude,
and we use "Shindo" here not Magnitude,
but as i wrote in the other Thread you need to look
for the Ground Acceleration
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Look how much GAL is needed to kill Daiichi
[link to en.wikipedia.org]
Unit 1 was designed for a peak ground acceleration of 0.18 g (1.74 m/s2) and a response spectrum based on the 1952 Kern County earthquake, but rated for 0.498 g.[10][17] The design basis for Units 3 and 6 were 0.45 g (4.41 m/s2) and 0.46 g (4.48 m/s2) respectively.[18] All units were inspected after the 1978 Miyagi earthquake when the ground acceleration was 0.125 g (1.22 m/s2) for 30 seconds, but no damage to the critical parts of the reactor was discovered.[10] The design basis for tsunamis was 5.7 meters.[19]

WOW....you really believe all that (meaning the fact all is OK)? I know there is a different scale used in Japan vs the rest of the world. You act as if nothing is wrong in Japan.

If you are sooo sure that everything is not as bad as we say, why don't you just go down to units (or even 20k around it). Take some readings and a picture with the "Atom-Boy" sign? Then go take a swim in the ocean there and "if you can still hold a sign" do it again. Then we want weekly reports (with pictures) so the rest of the world can watch you change before our eyes. And don't forget to hold up the daily news paper so we know it is "REALLY" that day.

I personally have nothing against you Atom-Boy but back your words up by going there...taking a swim in the ocean by Fuk...

Don't insult everyones intelligents by acting like there is nothing wrong.

I am far from being selective, I know some Japanese and even Instructors that were trained in Japan and received their 6th red strip (know what I mean?). They are a very proud people that know what kindness/sacrifice/honor is.

There is a time to fight and a time to watch/listen...what will it take for the Japanese people to step up and see what everyone else sees?

I have a German flag on my Avatar, but I am not German. I am an American and I have had the honor to view my Country from a distance (which has changed me). It has given me the understanding that the US of A is NOT the best land on Earth, but just one of the lands on "Earth"! I will always be American and I raised my hand to fight/defend against all enimies "foreign and domestic" and I will if needed.

We all live on the EARTH and that is whats at stake here!! Not just Japan, but EARTH. This is what has me concerned!!!

Peace In/Out...

All you "Fukushima will kill us all!!!!!" people, answer a simple question for me.

Let's suppose you're right. What can we do about it?

The answer is: absolutely nothing.

So...why consume yourselves with this? If you can do nothing about it, what's the point in obsessing over it?

we can still do something but we just don't know what neither how, that's the problem.

accepting a slow suicide is like putting your head in the sand, that's what the people who did this to us want: to accept destruction instead of fighting for life because it's a war against humanity and earth really.

now just think about how many people can and must work their asses off about this subject to find one or more solutions, a lot and some are already working since years on this subject but they are not helped and worst, they are treated like shit or they are killed, mocked whatever.

so the only way for us to change this is what?
to remove fastly the rocks on the road so the people who can and want to work on this problem can do it.

you want change? create the change, if you cannot provide a solution, try to help the ones who probably can with all the energy you have.

Really? Pray tell, what? Almost all of the comments on these threads are: "we're fucked, life is over, blah blah blah". None of them sound to me like "hey, we can still do something". If we can still do something, then why aren't people approaching it from that perspective instead of the "we're fucked" perspective?

accepting a slow suicide is like putting your head in the sand, that's what the people who did this to us want: to accept destruction instead of fighting for life because it's a war against humanity and earth really.
 Quoting: Monbazillac

An earthquake and tsunami "did it" to us. Stupidity is what positioned the plant next to the ocean. Are you calling natural geologic forces and idiocy "people"?

now just think about how many people can and must work their asses off about this subject to find one or more solutions, a lot and some are already working since years on this subject but they are not helped and worst, they are treated like shit or they are killed, mocked whatever.
 Quoting: Monbazillac

You say lots of things here, each of which deserves further explanation.

What subject? Atomic power?

Who has been killed? Specific names, please?

You said "years" on the subject. It has only been a year, a month, and a few weeks since Fukushima -- so what are you referring to?

so the only way for us to change this is what?
to remove fastly the rocks on the road so the people who can and want to work on this problem can do it.
 Quoting: Monbazillac

I don't understand what you mean.

you want change? create the change, if you cannot provide a solution, try to help the ones who probably can with all the energy you have.
 Quoting: Monbazillac

Tell this to those people who say "we're fucked and we're all gonna die, this is an ELE" etc etc. They're the one curling up and waiting for death, apparently. Don't tell me this. My take is: if we're fucked, there's nothing at all we can do about it, so why worry?

wanna sit in your ass and wait for death? well if you hate life so much, just kill yourself it's more simple.
 Quoting: Monbazillac

Again, tell that to the people who say we're fucked. Why bother living if we're all screwed anyway?

TEPCO says in its communique:

Our analyses show that the building, including the spent fuel pool, will not collapse even if an earthquake equivalent (seismic intensity 6)

So what does seismic intensity 6 mean if not magnitude? And indeed, even if it's magnitude they don't bother to point out on what scale (Richter, Mercalli, the Japanese version?).

Since TEPCO bothered to issue a communique in English, for the international public, they should maybe translate that figure into the Richter scale?

I think most of us who read about it all the time hope that threw a collective an answer can be found to help fix the problem. Not talking about it and discussing it would be like burying my head in the sand. Many people from different walks of life have taken interest even though the true extent of this disaster keeps getting side tracked. One day an answer will be found ,I just hope I'm around to see it come to fruition.
Then there's waking people up to this disaster. If you don't know much about the problem how are we supposed to explain how this affects them? I read and read hoping one day to come up with a solution to help. So far nothing, but it doesn't mean I and others shouldn't try. Sitting behind a computer learning isn't a bad thing and anyone who says different I have no respect for.
