Re: Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the New Testament
jesus did not have to speak of homo's because he already knew allah had all those problems and allah even had to tell the muslims to stop it. Allah said~ no homo's ok...Jesus knew this therefore problem that he never had was solved.

well, you are wrong again.

i am a 45 year old female widow with two children and one granddaughter, working a double major in seminary and psychology. i have been a Holy Ghost baptized Christian for 18 years. i have studied the bible informally for 17 years, and formally for 2. i live a celibate life, work in ministry, and volunteer my time to assist women in crisis and recovering alcoholics (i am a recovered alcoholic myself). i am a sculptor and painter, worked 25 years in the printing and graphics trade and held management positions. was an art director as well for a few years. consider myself fairly well read with an IQ of 158. weaknesses: i drink too much coffee and have a cigarette a few times a day. i am partially disabled with a mild form of muscular dystrophy. i am working towards a masters in divinity and another masters in psychology. i plan to use these degrees to vocate with the church to help/teach women to aquire coping skills and life skills, and to live a Godly life.

Re: Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the New Testament
...

And no homosexuality.

Hate the sin, love the sinner.

I am puzzled as to the purpose of this thread Salt. The only aroma it gives off to me is being apologetic for God's condemnation of homosexuality as an immoral act and trying to provide to others room to rationalize homosexuality as 'not that bad' because "Jesus didn't say it".

In truth, Jesus did condemn homosexuality although it was in the Old Testament, for He is the Great I AM Who spoke to Moses and the Israelites.

It is time for God's true people to live Ezekiel 3:17-21
Quoting: A Voice In The Wilderness

gay people need God. my gay friends need God and are turning to dark arts because of this.

God's true people to live Ezekiel means live in the OT.

help me to understand this logic.
 Quoting: Salt

Everyone needs God. I have had best friends who are homosexuals. I love them, but I can't condone or approve of their lifestyle nor give forth any idea that what they do is acceptable in the eyes of God. One who truly loves God will seek to help lead souls to the foot of the Cross and departure from sin.

"Search the Scriptures... for they are they which testify of Me." John 5:39. There was no 'New Testament' in Jesus' day. The OT & NT together make up the Holy Scriptures. The idea that one chapter, book, or testament is more important than another is an unGodly doctrine.
Quoting: A Voice In The Wilderness

i completely agree that they are not two SEPARATE books. however, i am not convinced that anything outside of sexual immorality (lust, empty sex, sex without marriage, sex with multiple partners, promiscuity, prostitution, sodomy, fornication, and adultery) were considered sinful in the NT
 Quoting: Salt

Well, adultery was certainly a sin to Jesus. Read the account in John 8:3-11. A woman was brought before Jesus and Jesus stopped the people from stoning her. Jesus could read hearts and most likely this woman was repentant(if not though she was being taught a great lesson with those around her) but he did tell her he would not condemn her but to not sin anymore which meant to not actively participate in the sin of adultery. To stop it and live a moral life.

Let's say she was about to be stoned because she was a lesbian or prostitute. It would have ended the same way with Jesus telling her that she would not be condemned and to stop the sin that got her in trouble.

The thing is we are all sinners since we inherited sin from Adam and Eve. But there are sins we can stop practicing and that is what Jesus was trying to put across here. If you are doing something that is a sin(lying, stealing, sexual immorality of any kind, drunkenness, etc.) to stop it and repent. It is a narrow road to walk but it can be done if we ask God through Jesus to help us.

Re: Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the New Testament
the Jewish people did not practice homosexuality, never they were Torah observant and new the sexual sins of sodom and Gomorrah...

The pagans, heathens and hooligans were the ones to engage in the sins of the bible and Torah.....

Jewish people were sentenced for Torah offenses,Jesus taught them about the forgiveness that was needed and GOD,s mercy for those sinners....

Sexual sin including the sin of homosexuality is condemned eternally.

Well, Jesus did reiterate that marriage is only between a man and a woman. And since there is to be no sex before marriage everyone is to be celibate. So either you live a celibate, moral life or you get married to the opposite sex. It is very clear that anything else is immoral and wrong. And this is Jesus' words.

Jesus said:
4.... "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,
5 "and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
6 "So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." Matthew 19:4-6

I just gave you the scripture. He mentions male and female only and then man and wife. How much clearer could he get? In Genesis God made Adam and Eve and joined them together. Jesus is the NT emphasizes this AGAIN. Marriage is for a man and a woman. There was never a time in the Bible where God or Jesus said anything different.

Gay is certainly not ok,but that is between sinner and Christ, our Lord.I think we should educate, not judge, explain to people why particular sin is bad for them...But always condemn sin, especially in your life, our conscience is a gift, exercize it!pick that tree out of your eye

Re: Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the New Testament
Jesus may not have said anything about homosexuals, but he did imply that renouncing sexual acts was the way towards the Kingdom.

"Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."
 Quoting: Manu-Koelbren

Also, Jesus knew the thoughts of people, he would have known if this man was talking about a sexual partner. He sure wouldn't have said he had great faith, except that he believed he could cure the person who was sick.

Why is it that people have to say a person was homosexual in the bible and Jesus didn't care? He said to follow his Fathers commandments, and there is one against that kind of sex. It is a sin, but it is a sin that can be forgiven. There are other sins that heterosexuals.. of a sexual nature.. comment that are against the commandments of God, so don't think homosexuals were being singled out.

Sin is sin no matter what kind of sin, we all fall short, and have to be forgiven.

That is because it is VERY hard to walk the narrow road to life. It is easy to follow the broad road of sin where anything goes and that is why many are on it unfortunately.

Matthew 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Re: Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the New Testament
I believe God's Law is placed inside of us and speaks through our conscience in matters of right and wrong.

And then there is the world's belief system derived from what sinful man deems right and wrong, and influenced by the devil.

We are left with choice.

Do we choose to listen to what God is telling us or do we choose to listen to what "fallen" man has to say?

The devil tried to plant the thought of homosexuality in my mind during my teen years, before I was a Christian.
He knew I was a prime target. I was a tomboy who had more male friends than females.
I liked to climb trees, play sports, fish and just hang around with the guys.
I know a lot of that came from the fact my mom told me she never wanted me,
so I clung to my dad more and found it more acceptable to be around the male gender.

My mom was what I referred to as a "seasonal lesbian"--she was a lesbian for one season of her life.
She was physically abused by my dad, extremely lonely as her whole family was in Germany,
and she was addicted to drugs and alcohol.
It was the loneliness and lack of love that that brought her into a relationship with another woman, just for a season.

When I was 18, I had no direction in my life, had no boyfriend but many boy friends.
I had a girl friend who I hung around with a lot. We were on a bowling league,
traveled to New York together and worked at the same job. She started getting a little too chummy with me
and I was starting to realize she wanted more than just friendship.

That is when the thought was planted in my mind. "hmmm, could I be a lesbian?
After all, my mom was. Could I love this woman? I don't have any boyfriends, why is that?"
But then the other voice would speak--"no, it's wrong"--and that's what I listened to.
Not because anyone told me that it was wrong, because I never talked to anyone about these inner thoughts.
I just had this feeling that I was suppose to listen to the voice that was saying "it was wrong".
Even before I was spiritually re-born, the Lord had His hand in my life and I didn't even know it.
Didn't even know that He existed.

I remember hearing that there are 5 or 6 stages of a thought process that you go through
when enticed with homosexuality. Of course, if you reached the last stage it is more difficult to change your way of thinking.

Anyways(it's getting late, and I'm tired), my conclusion is that homosexuality is a learned behavior.
I do believe there are some men who are born more effeminate, I think it is a hormonal imbalance.
The same goes for women, I believe some women are born with more of the male hormone.

Unfortunately, the devil knows it's easier to entice these people because he'll use their femininity and masculinity to convince them that they are meant to be with the same sex.

If you can convince your friends that it is not them that Jesus hates, but the sin that they are doing,
maybe it will soften their hearts and start to change their thinking in regards to the possibility of change.
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task
the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

"This man really is the Savior of the world!" John 4:42

Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him;
and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, " says the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 1:7

show me where He says "only" between man and woman.
 Quoting: Salt

I just gave you the scripture. He mentions male and female only and then man and wife. How much clearer could he get? In Genesis God made Adam and Eve and joined them together. Jesus is the NT emphasizes this AGAIN. Marriage is for a man and a woman. There was never a time in the Bible where God or Jesus said anything different.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

i don't think Torah law considered homosexuals for marriage then. it just wasn't a "thing" then. Man and woman coming together was for populating the earth - that was the context of those passages. there are also scriptures that say it is better to marry than to fornicate or adulterate.
 Quoting: Salt

It is better to marry because fornication and adultery are sins. So if you don't have the willpower to be celibate then marriage is the only alternative as is marrying the opposite sex.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

i guess i struggle with this because i have one friend in particular who is obviously not very feminine by nature, and had a "wife" for over ten years and was devastated when the relationship dissolved. she has stayed celibate since and would like to find another relationship. there is nothing dirty or perverted about her. she is normal and healthy minded person. everything except the gay thing. it's sad that she goes to wiccan to find God because she thinks God hates and rejects her. hard for me to watch.

If I go to AA....it is to fish. I drank a lot more in AA and Jesus, like in public schools, is not very welcome. God has delivered me from the spirit of alcohol and addiction and I praise Him for that.

It is very counter-productive to affirm that your are what you once were. I have found that when I tell someone there that I am not an alcoholic they through the tired old phrases at me that limit them and God's intervention in their lives.

Re: Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the New Testament
there are a number of verses, however, that condemn homophobia. The story in Matthew about the centurion who asks Jesus to heal his "son" was not his son, but the word actually means something quite different. The translations suggest that the word used for "son" actually meant most likely his lover - or more specifically, the young man who served the centurion sexually which was not uncommon for Rome back then.

(the centurion i am speaking of is the one who asked Jesus to heal his "son", Jesus asks him to take him to the young man, and the centurion replies 'only say the word and I know he will be healed' then Jesus commends his great faith)

Matthew 8:5-13:
When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”

7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”

8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.

These verses describe how a Roman centurion asked Jesus to cure his "pais" who lay paralyzed and in great agony. The centurion stated that all Jesus had to do was to say the right words to effect the cure. Jesus praised the centurion for his faith. If the boy had been the centurion's son, then the author probably would have used the Greek word "uios" (son). If the writer wanted to imply that they boy was a slave or indentured servant, then he probably would have used the word "duolos" (slave). But he did not. He used the Greek word pais which, in this situation, contains the suggestion of a young male kept for sexual purposes by his adult owner. The English word "pederasty" comes partly from this word. Various translations of the Christian Scriptures have suppressed the possible sexual component of the term and translated the word simply as a "servant boy", "serving boy", "young servant," "my son," and "my boy." A present-day relationship of this type would be considered child sexual abuse, a serious crime. However, such arrangements were common in the Roman Empire at the time, and were tolerated by society, as was human slavery itself.

The Gospel of Luke, starting at Luke 7:2 told the same story differently. The boy was changed into a slave of undefined age who was 'dear to' (KJV) the Centurion. The author used the Greek word doulos which is a generic term for servant or slave. He was described as being very sick and near death; this contrasts with the author of Matthew who description of a boy being paralyzed and in great pain.

Scripture that most likely shows Jesus condemning homophobia:

Matthew 5:22:

"...anyone who says to his brother 'Raca' is answerable to the Sanhedrin [the Council]. But anyone who says 'You fool' will be in danger of the hell fire" (NIV)

It is often stated that Jesus never commented about homosexuality. A case can be made that he refers to gays in this verse. On the surface, the verse seems to condemn individuals who treat others with contempt and call them names. Hatred of others is considered here as serious to God as an overt act of murder. 'Raca' is defined in the NIV as an Aramaic term of contempt. It has been translated literally as "I spit on you." But "raca," "rakha" and similar terms in various Semitic languages also carry the meaning of effeminacy or weakness - terms frequently used to refer to homosexuals. The word 'Moros' which is translated as "fool" has a number of meanings, including both sexual aggressor and homosexual aggressor. 1 One could argue that Jesus was condemning homophobia in this passage; but it would be a weak case at best, because of the multiplicity of meanings of the key words.

(note: hell fire used in matthew 5:22 does not mean "hell" but for a clarification of the term "hell fire" feel free to ask and I can extrapolate that for you.)
