Saw this type of story a while back..... The Gulag is here and strong. Wonder how long they will jail them? Cant pay a bill while locked up. Maybe time for forced hard labor until paid in full?

Ya, really sucks because I need to move to one of those states but I am a perfect candidate. Life is weird like that.

The person can be held for an indefinite period, until they comply with the courts order. Depends on the Judge.

Did you guys know that if you owe a bill and you pay even 1% of the bill each month. JUST MAKE A PAYMENT you can stave off this sort of thing. A payment of some sort every month is an attempt to pay and will keep you out of trouble.

By law they cannot touch you if you are making some sort of payment period. Its when you pay nothing that you get into trouble.

Free labor.

Just issue them a promissory note, it is legal tender, same as Federal Reserve Notes.

If they refuse to accept it as payment, the debt is discharged.

That is kind of interesting. I read several articles recently about debtor's prison.

You think they are bringing it back?

All it takes is for a process server to say you were served, if you don't show up in court the judge will find for the plaintiff even if you did not owe them anything,and on top of that you will be found in contempt and will face jail time.

Wasn't it Pennsylvania or New Jersey where the judges were sent to prison for taking more than a million dollars in kickbacks from the private prisons where they were sending the juveniles.

In the eighty's airlines were paying convicts 15 cents an hour to make passenger reservations. That stopped when people kept coming home to burgled houses.

Today a lot of manufacturing is carried on in the U.S. using 23 cent an hour slave labor in prisons.

That's what the banks do when they loan money. The promise to pay is what funds the loan.

I guess its a matter of time until they come get me. I owe medical bills and I'm unemployed right now. I had insurance it was just the copays which I think are friggin stupid

Calls for a bailout.

Collection agencies buy the debt for pennies on the dollar. You do not have a contract with them,only the original company...ergo,they cannot force you to pay the debt.

Compare that (illusion of) freedom to how company towns (coal mining for example) were run for others not officially known as slaves, there is no difference.

In Texas, we have the Texas Commerce Code which supercedes the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If any debt is 4 years beyond the last consumer-initiated activity, it is legally uncollectible, and anyone attempting to collect a debt outside the statute of limitations is subject to heavy fines. I love Texas.

I was one of the juveniles who was railroaded and ended up in one of them. It was called cash for kids FUCK THIS FUCKING RIGGED AS SYSTEM

Great now the state gets to pay a lot more then $280 for her stay in jail.
