WTF? I Just saw a star-like object fly over me and disappear.
In the Eastern sky.

I was looking up at the stars and it looked like a star flew over me at incredible speed before vanishing.

Shooting star? I have seen shooting stars before and this was too fast. It didn't have a trail behind it either. Just a little bright dot that moved incredibly fast from point a to point b and then disappeared. It did look like it was in space though...or upper atmosphere.

Really weird. I would be interested to know if this is can be explained scientifically.

They're called 'Satellites'...

They have been in the papers since the 50's...

You know its crazy you say this, about 1 1/2years ago I had a similar experience in a Chicago Alley, but it wasnt in the atmosphere, it was about 3stories high. It appeared very fast and was emitting light. It went zooming across from west to east so fast. It literally vanished as fast as it appeared. No noise/smell/smoke/etc. Coincidence I think not.

if you saw them yourself then youd realise that your explanation is miles off! all the people who try to explain them away saying they are satelites/flares/birds ect havent seen them, no way.

That would be awesome. I am hoping the Aliens come soon.

Way more exciting than the satellite explanation.

Ok, I changed my mind...It was a UFO/Aliens.

I have seem them too, in Central NC. I saw one a few nights ago (Friday I think) I was following it with my scope b/c it was travelling slow enough to do so, when it passed a near-by star it got brighter, then dimmed back after it passed. THAT was crazy to SEE. Not sure what is up there but I've never seen anything like this. If they are Sats. Why would they have a white nav. light? So the other Sats. can see them? I've seen plenty of shooting stars and high alt. planes in my life, this was like nothing I've seen.

Re: WTF? I Just saw a star-like object fly over me and disappear.
Ok, I just saw two "UFO's".

This time I was looking at the blue star in the the Eastern sky again.

I panned to the south west and saw an unusually bright star. It started to move slowly in a straight line. It vanished over the horizon. Defo not an air plane.

About 10 minutes later, I saw another seemingly stationary star that seemed too bright and out of place. It started to move slowly overhead and vanished when it reached close to the horizon.

Now, I'm not getting all woo woo, it's just that these two "moving stars" were moving alot slower than my experience in the original post.

I also realize that my perception of them being stationary could just be an optical illusion because my eyes took a couple of seconds to really focus on it.

Now, can someone explain this in a non-smug/know it all way please? Satellite?

Thanks...

someone actually captured something that apears very similar to what I saw on night vision camera: [link to www.youtube.com]

Looks about the same speed I saw, look at the stars as it passes for relative speed. Also notice, solid light, no flashes.

Excellent vid capture
