Burning the Koran!!! Is she nuts or has she guts!

She is wrong.

Burning books, any books, regardless of content is always wrong.

This is not a path I would like to see humanity go down again.

I'm a fairly militant atheist but I would condemn burning the quran, bible or any other ancient religious text purely on academic grounds, I own copies of both and consider them valuable additions to my library.

The Quran has value far beyond any spiritual mumbo jumbo, it's a historical document, a cultural record and like it or not has important significance.

Plus burning books?
Isn't that a little medieval?
Shall we revive the stake and iron maiden as well?

Bottom line, don't burn books you barbarian, books don't hurt people, people hurt people.

A bunch of text on paper isn't suppressing women, dumb men who are intellectually stunted enough to believe what it says are suppressing women.

While I agree with your sentiments there is plenty of evidence that books have been responsible for many, many deaths. When the conquistadors arrived in south America a priest handed a bible to one of the native chief's who not understanding what it was threw it to the ground. The priest screamed he has blasphemed and ordered the soldiers to open fire. Five hundred innocent natives died that day. Books have been used to justify war and Israel is a prime example using the Torah to justify murder as they believe they are gods chosen people. Mankind has a very long way to go to evolve beyond the superstitious nonsense that is used to justify wars, murder and even pedophilia While I agree that many books are valuable a lot of what is written in books like the koran and the bible, torah etc are altered to suit those who want to control. Much of the original message is lost in translation and deliberately manipulated. Take a look at the amount of people still stuck in this religious paradigm and you begin to realize that we are screwed unless there is a major mind altering event. It saddens me that so much information in books was lost when they burned the library of Alexandria and so much more is locked away in the vaults of the vatican. Perhaps she is venting her anger at the way women have been vilified in many religious books. I don't condone her actions but I do try to understand how she feels. Peace.

It don't take guts or balls to burn something that you don't believe in. Its a book that is printed more times then it is burned.

Hell lets have a bible burning day just so we can show there world that nothing bad come from it unless you make that bad happen.

I take a different perspective on it.

When the California Preacher burned a Koran and made news all over with it, a UN compound in Afghanistan was over run as a result and 20 peacekeepers were killed and or beheaded (including the woman).


Now. Burning books of any ideology is illogical.

However. Killing 20 people from the result of this action is irreprehensible, illicit, and extremist.

However the extremists like to blend in really well. If we REALLY want to know who the extremists are in the muslim community we should be burning a Koran a day in every Afghanistan village and city.

However I would suggest they should mount 30 mm miniguns on the compounds, there is going to be alot of people to shoot.

Secondly if we want to determine who the extremists are in the world community, I would suggest we burn a bible in a mega-church parking lot right when their getting out, and film the results.

Then repeat the sequence in a muslim church in North America, an Islamist church in North America,

And then finally repeat - burn a Torah in front of a Jewish Synagogue,

Make a video compilation of it. Lets call a spade a spade, and extremists extremists, by comparing the reaction.

Again, I would condemn the burning of ANY ancient religious text and am not impressed at the prospect of burning ANY book.
