This happens at least once a yr over there. Sorry for these folks, is sad. They all need to learn to swim and they need to carry life saving devices on that Ferry, enough for everyone or make them wear life jackets to ride the Ferry since this seems to happen all the time.

GAUHATI, India (AP) -- Police say a packed ferry boat has capsized in heavy winds and rain in remote northeastern India, leaving at least 35 people dead and 75 others feared missing.

Assam state police chief J.N. Choudhury says the boat was carrying about 200 passengers, but details were sketchy because bad weather and the remoteness of the area hampered communication.

According to the sources, the ferry bound from Perabhita ghat of Dhubri to another bank of the Brahmaputra drowned in the middle of the river because of heavy storm.

Sources said that there were more than 300 passengers in the ferry out of which 50 passengers were able to come out of the river.

In India, nobody gives a fuck for deaths of poor people in boat accidents. If you don't believe me, check all the Indian news sites. Its not even the first lead story in any of the papers. The first story is about the candidates for presidential elections. The news channels here are more obsessed with the arrest of the mother of a child who was murdered a few years ago and have no interest in sending their reporters to remote areas of north east to cover the boat tragedy..
