AND..... if you are looking to find a facility to try these services.... it may be a bit "alternative" or hippie-esque. It seems to me there is a huge gu;lf between those interested in health and different methods. I wish it wasn't this way because the patchouli (sp?) and zen waterfalls with strange music can turn off otherwise regular clientele. I get a relaxed atmosphere, but it comes in many forms.

Never... interested but sounds scary/freaky... if the heat on my face freaked me out sensory deprivation might really do the trick. LOLZ

But I have looked into this for years but just decided to take the plunge to go and sweat/vibrate.... kinda feel pretty good after my first session today. we'll see

Actually the only people practicing this as a healing method/therapy are healers, chiropractors, herbalists, mostly "natural" sources. The FIR is natural but the vibration has more science to it.

Had a FIR sauna for awhile, it was good but remember, saunas are beneficial in this order:

1. Salt bath- normal bath in a tub with Epsom salts to open the pores and for magnesium, this detoxes you the most, but uses a lot of water

2. Steam bath (this is wet heat- the best sauna; the American Indians did this in their sweat lodges, they knew what they were doing and the many benefits)

3. FIR sauna (this is dry heat, 2nd best compared to steam bath)

4. Normal sauna (again- dry heat, but without far infared)

Really any of the above are good, but they are listed in order from most effective, to least effective

I bought a portable FIR sauna - my head is outside the sauna, unless I want to sit down inside the thing. I dont like heat on my face either!

I purchased the Therasage portable sauna because of its very low emfs as compared to a less expensive model:

the reviews for the Therasage can be seen on amazon
[link to www.amazon.com]

it does make me sweat, after 20 to 30 minutes I am dripping wet. I use it several times a week. I live in a very small apt so I fold it up every night after I use it - its easy to put away and setup.

I think its one of the best things I can do for my health.

But you MUST drink LOTS OF WATER and replenish your minerals since you will be sweating a lot....

no heat on my face sounds devine....:) I'll have a look at your info, thank you. Someone mentioned other detox methods, but I thought there was a theory behind the TYPE of heat (far infrared)...I'm going to have to research a ton. But at least these days I'm looking to improve my health... Thats a switch from my self destructive youth...lolz

Hey OP :)

We have a FIR Sauna, which we use a few times a week and have done so for about 4 years. We LOVE it! Health benefits are amazing when used properly.

To the poster commenting that it doesn't seem 'natural', I suspect they are unaware of what far-infrared actually is.

I have a portable FIR sauna and love it. I have chronic pain from autoimmune illness and it has made a world of difference. I paid like 300 for it on Amazon.

That's what I was told. I have had a whole body vibration machine for several years. I've found it's really good for fibromyalgia and lymphatic system cleansing. I'm finding it really helpful for detox problems due to switching to a raw vegan food diet, too. I also put the old pooches on the machine and turned around their bad hip problems which the vet wanted 4k each to repair. The dogs are walking around fine now even though they are 14 and 16 years old.

Soooo.... I did the vibration today.

How fun was that???

Totally a kick in the butt.

Ya'll gotta try it.

They told me it was equal to an hour in the gym but was not to replace aerobic excercise.

I absolutely loved it!!! Invigorating!!!!

 Quoting: Scarbedazzles

whole-body vibration stimulates the body’s natural stretch reflex and causes muscle contractions in much the same way that a doctor’s tapping below a patient’s patella with a reflex hammer elicits a knee-jerk response. The stretch reflex is controlled by stretch receptors called muscle spindles that are located in skeletal muscle. Muscle spindles are usually activated when a muscle is under a static stretch or is quickly stretched or overstretched, causing a reflex contraction of the muscle. [link to www.topsport.in] With whole-body vibration, this reflex action is continually stimulated, so a muscle continues to contract and relax until the vibration stops. In addition, studies have reported that activation of one muscle spindle will cause a reflex contraction and relaxation in many adjacent muscles.

Muscle spindles work by activating motor neurons (nerves) in the spinal cord; these neurons initiate movement by sending signals from the brain to the muscles. Voluntary activation of motor neurons is a limiting factor in muscular force production. The improvements in muscular force production with whole-body vibration are a direct result of increased motor neuron activation by muscle spindles, leading to increased motor unit recruitment and force production. Whole-body vibration stimulates fast-twitch (type 2) motor units, which are usually recruited during high-intensity, explosive movements or whenever slow-twitch (type 1) motor units are maximally recruited. As a result, long-term, exhaustive exposure to whole-body vibration can lead to muscular fatigue and muscle soreness.

With FAR-infrared do be careful not to use it on your eyes, or look into it, for the heat manifests below the epidermis and within the eyeballs, not good IMO !
