Ron Paul likes to read economic stuff and has no doubt read some of Krugman's writings, but for the life of me I have no idea why Professor Krugman thinks that more government spending and Federal Reserve manipulations will solve anything in the long run. It only makes matters worse and at this stage of debt to GDP, more spending is not the answer. Ironically enough, the old Marxist tenants of 'means of production' and 'capital' as the source of tangible wealth creation has long since lost meaning when 'money = capital' that the FED can just create out of computerized journal entries. |

Burt Gummer User ID: 7702124 United States 04/30/2012 10:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | (Ron) Paul is unique among the GOP contenders, or for that matter among politicians in general, in making monetary policy his signature issue. So it’s worth noting that he is among those who have been wrong about everything in this slump. I’m sure that the Paulistas will find a way to claim that their man has been right about everything, even though his predictions have been all wrong. But he really has built his political career around the notion that he’s an expert in a subject about which he actually understands nothing. Actually Bill Clinton did that with his repeal of Glass Steagall....and then the ENDLESS spending ensued. The repeal of Glass-Steagall was supported by 100% of the repubs and it was spearheaded by Phil Gramm. Clinton was mistaken to go along with it. As far as spending into trillions in debt, that began with Reagan TRIPLING the national debt. It's only been under control once since then, under the Democratic Clinton administration. Gummer, I know you think you know politics extraordinarily well, but the sad truth is your underanding is childish and ridiculous and your opinions are just lowbrow rethuglican horseshit, no more valuable than the idiocy that Sarah Palin spews. |

Reagan built the US back up from a second rate military status to the Soviet Union at that time, and the Soviet Union collapsed. Deficit spending is not good, admittedly, but the US was losing ground to communist interests at that time. As for as the Clinton administration balancing the budget, that was largely due to a Republican House. Sad to see the Republicans have given up on balancing budgets, or that Cheney ever lived to say that deficits don't matter. |

Or repudiate it. He has to continue in hopes that he is right. I believe that hope is all he has. When the reckoning comes krugman will get away scot free. He will deny he ever said any such things. |
