So what is safe nowadays?

How are people supposed to know what's what?

Organic is not always organic, and when it is, few people can afford to purchase organic or locally-grown items.

Vegetables and fruits have pesticides and are potentially contaminated by workers in the fields and/or improper washing methods before shipping.

Beef, pork, chicken can have a variety of contaminants such as e coli.

Seafood now has many more risks than before, especially anything from the Gulf Coast.

Canned goods can be tainted in a number of ways.

Breads contain yeast, something which far more people are sensitive to now, as candida is epidemic.

Frozen foods are not that healthy and many are concerned about the plastic containers they are cooked in when oven prepared and microwaving is dangerous.

The FDA allows things like rodent hair and bug parts to be LEGALLY left in products.

Plastic water bottles leech toxic chemicals, tap water is contaminated, and few can afford water in glass bottles.

Coffee and tea - good or bad? Depends on what you read.

Sodas and fruit juices are high in sugar and acidic.

And then there's Fukishima - how much of the food supply will be contaminated in America?

There is simply NO way for people now to feel completely confident in knowing that what they consume is safe and healthy.

And this is AMERICA, supposedly an advanced, super-power nation.

And they cannot even govern things like the safety of the food supply.

Unless you Kill it, Gut it, and Clean it yourself, you are probably getting just about anything?

As far as the FDA is concerned YOU have to prove that a "PRODUCT IS DANGEROUS"

No COMPANY OR CORPORATION has to prove that a PRODUCT IS SAFE, they only have to prove "it hasn't killed anybody yet". Who OWNS the FDA? The Corporations.

So let’s sum up. Food producers can put “reconditioned” food into their products and they don’t have to tell anyone–that means you and me–unless they’ve screwed up and made people sick. Wait, that’s not quite right. They still don’t have to tell you and me–but they do have to tell the FDA. Which apparently responds by sending letters. And even if they’ve screwed up–by making people sick, that’s my definition of screwing up here– they can still put this into baby food until they’re told to stop? Although it looks as if they can’t foist their reconditioned product onto unsuspecting schoolkids at some point–although we don’t know if these guys are, or are not, currently providing reconditioned moldy “applesauce product” to children. Any bets?

every year. just finished plowing/planting this weekend.

excellent. strawberries are already here too, i'm so excited. i'm with you ~ can't eat most shit bought at stores. my whole family calls me a food snob. fortunately for me i don't drink alcohol so i am unawares of what shady practices are going on in that industry.

this weekend i had the final nail in the coffin for me and big box store food. had some blue berries from walmart in the fridge, and i went to the local farmers market and bought some fresh blueberries from a vendor there.

when i tasted the ones the local farmers had grown, it was delicious. never tasted ANY blueberry in my life that was that good. then i tasted the ones from walmart, and i just fucking threw them away. same with the strawberries.

there shouldn't be THAT big of a difference in taste of the same food. just try your own local food and compare if anyone doesn't believe me. we need to start getting back to supporting our local growers more.

HA! This has been going on for decades.. since at least the 1920s, and some of us have been fighting it for what seems like that long...

if you think that you have it any better bc you live in canada, you have a lot of wakening up to do.. now, if you grow and hunt all your own food, then more power to you.

buy an instrument called a refractometer. i use one to test all of my produce. it tests total dissolved solids, and when applied to fruits and vegetables, is an indicator of mineral content and sugar content (sweetness of fruit). high-brix gardening is the way to go. those bland testing fruits and veggies will guaranteed have a very low brix.

Preposterous! The FDA is there to help protect us! If they are repackaging old products than its because they're good for us and safer when they are old! Never question the federal regulators. In fact never question ANYTHING the state does. They are GOD Goddammit!

.. I noticed almost all meat when you buy it is cured .. and it all tastes, gross and old .. I can't remember the last time I had meat and not thought it tasted bad ..

.. if you don't get organic fruits and vegetables .. you can't wash the pesticide taste off ..

So sick of all of this .. in the very near future, if I don't grow it .. or I don't have the guts to kill it or barter for it .. we aren't eating it ..

ROFL.....now I'm glad I took all the warnings here to heart and invested the blood and sweat clearing, prepping, and planting many gardens. I'm basically off the chemical-food grid, and never felt better!

I just talked with my girl about this lately and we figured that we probably stop eating beef because it has become so bad in taste, consistency and the water that is coming of when you fry it.

Same with many veg.

Worst are the cooked meals in plastic you can store for month or even years.

Something's very wrong.

I donate all my expired and swollen canned goods to charities...
