Copying the rest of you.

Thats right, you read it correctly. Been doing so for almost 4 years, I've seen nearly every type of person, behaviour, etc. Nothing surprises me. Now what can I enlighten you with?

I did that for Target, until all the stooping and bending ripped open an old Army wound in my kidney and I started pissing blood. It took 2 days, and was the shortest employment position I've ever had.

Depends on the area. Walmart's Data Warehouse is one of the best out there and pretty much everything they do, including product placement, ads, etc are done by the Data Warehouse:

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Benefits of a data warehouse

A data warehouse maintains a copy of information from the source transaction systems. This architectural complexity provides the opportunity to:

Maintain data history, even if the source transaction systems do not.

Integrate data from multiple source systems, enabling a central view across the enterprise. This benefit is always valuable, but particularly so when the organization has grown by merger.

Improve data quality, by providing consistent codes and descriptions, flagging or even fixing bad data.

Present the organization's information consistently.

Provide a single common data model for all data of interest regardless of the data's source.

Restructure the data so that it makes sense to the business users.

Restructure the data so that it delivers excellent query performance, even for complex analytic queries, without impacting the operational systems.

Add value to operational business applications, notably customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

Now let me be clear: This is not new technology we've had it since the late 80's publically.

I don't have access to all the sales figures but water is by far the biggest seller. Minus grocery, the pet area is always the heaviest freight wise. A normal night is usually a 1,800- 2,300 piece truck. 400-600 is usually pets. Grocery gets their own truck. This is just a guess but the top sellers I would think are...

1. Deer park water
2. 40 lb bags of Dog chow
3. 80-20 ground beef
4. Angel soft toilet paper

I mean there is a bank, a hair salon, a mcdonalds, clinic, pharmacy... seems like they are being set up to be the only store left after we get rid of cash, and move to digital money.

Interesting, I wonder why more people dont install filters to get filtered tap water? Its what I do.

I dont have a dog either, I prefer cats cause we can put in a pet door and let the cat come and go while we travel.

Hamburger is still the cheapest there.

I buy the 99 cent toilet paper. lol. Angel soft is too soft for me. Must be all the women buying it.

Even more interesting is that the CIA uses the same system, as well as DHS. In fact most Data Warehouses are actually Data Marts for them to locate terrorists based on buying habits.

Re: I work at walmart as an overnight stocker...Ask me a question
must be fun!
being a night owl, i do the bulk of my (non-recreational) shopping in middle of the night at 24/7 stores like walmart.
here's a question:
where and why does walmart GET some of the awful clothes they offer for sale, and what happens to them after they've hung on the clearance rack too long, not selling even when it's marked down to one dollar? you know the ones = they're often in huge tent sizes, they're made from itchy fabrics in garish prints, and some of the kids clothes are so ugly it would stigmatize the kid by wearing them. What happens to these things when they're finally taken off the floor, only to be replaced by more? i mean, WTF?
