The AK-47 Vs the SKS what's best when SHTF?

I prefer SKS and you already have 30 rd so why switch, some will disagree.

Yeah you might be right just stick to what i know and familiar with an AR would be sweet though there just way to pricey here in az right now about 2000 for a good one.

romanian PSLs are nice too :) i live in NY and cant have beyond 10rd so its what i go with.

Ak47. Demcad on youtube has a wasr, the cheap one, he fired cheap ammo and had no issues... Go chck it out.

AR wouldn't be a smart choice.

the SKS is a great weapon, a little heavy compared to the AK. if youv already got a detachable mag, then your only saving weight, which is also a good thing. lighter gun, carry more ammo.

we dont need to do a AR vs AK vs everything else... its been done a 100 times, and most people dont bring anything good to the table

I may or may not have, Both SKS and AR. Both very fine weapons. even had the AR out the other day in a windy sand pit. no jams or nothing. People bitch about AR when they use junk ammo. use good brass cased ammo. and it should go bang.

Never had a problem with my AR either. works great, American made and I didn't have to rob the bank to buy one.

Most ex military will tell you if they are ever going to be somewhere that their weapon has to work every time they pull the trigger it will always be the AK-47. When the SHTF AK will work no matter the punishment.

Don't expect either one to be very accurate but good enough to work. I like AK-47 type 91 this one is fairly accurate!

I totally disagree. I have both the SKS and the AK47 and a AK74. No matter how much i clean the SKS that piece of shit jams up on me all the time. The bolt is sloppy right out of the box. Both my AK47 and AK74 have never jammed on me and i fairly clean them. The SKS has lots of moving parts. The AK's only have 8 moving parts. One thing the SKS has over the AK's is accuracy. However ask anyone who has been in a gun battle and they will say 99% of the bullets shot miss there target anyway. Most people would prefer a gun that will work 100% of the time rather then a gun that works 50% of the time but is 10% more accurate.

So here's the skinny you're looking for:

The SKS' magazine design makes it difficult to carry a lot of them around because of the extended lip. Finding a pouch for carrying them is a pain. Not sure if you have tried to quickly punch in another magazine after the first one is empty, but it is not a fluid process. Trying to get that lip inserted perfectly in a heated situation (or simulated) can be troublesome. In that regard, I give the AK higher marks.

On the other hand, the AK does not have a bolt-catch when the magazine is empty, but the SKS does. I have also noted the AK has some issues feeding hollow-point ammo. Not sure about the SKS overall.

Neither weapon is really accurate nor light. If you can be proficient with either, however, then the difference between the two isn't worth debating nor stating one is better than the other.

You cant beat its track record either. The AK47 has been responsible for more deaths then any other weapon on the planet.

Is it a USA steel 30round fixed mag? or an actual detachable mag as the SKS-D ?

I'm curious because many of the after market mags are junk and the USA steel mags and the tapco's are the best ones.

I like the SKS for rounds, banana clip, electric/duck tape two together. SKS seems to shoot straighter at high distance.

AK is better built better and jams less, can with-stand tons more abuse of living in woods/sand/water or whatever environment you may encounter.

I got both from cheaper then dirt the tapco 20 round and the american steel booth shoot well dont jam but the tapco has a tighter spring im going to order 6 more. The lip is not too bad might get the ak mag adapter so i can use both type of mags.

I have never had any of my sks's jam, ever.the AR would be good to have ,you will always be able to get ammo for it.

Just so many people buying here in az its hard to get a good deal on anything sellers drive up prices like crazy. Seems like everybodys stocking up here for emergency its crazy but hey you got to be prepared never know when its time to bug out.

In this heat, I'll take an AR. Much lighter and u can carry more ammo.

Best place to buy AK's are at pawn shops. You can pick up a good AK for under $500. Most pawn shops by them by the case. They are typically converted in grease when you get them but just clean the gun off and your good to go. Don't get the shitty Chinese made AK's they are stamped and cheaply built.

keep the sks
learn to use stripper clips

clean it accordingly if you shoot corosive primers

good sks might be better than a shitty ak
proven, quality ak might be better than average sks
