"Gematria or gimatria is a system of assigning numerical value to a word or phrase, in the belief that words or phrases with identical numerical values bear some relation to each other, or bear some relation to the number itself as it may apply to a person's age, the calendar year, or the like"



This is how it works: a number (value) is assigned to each letter of the alphabet, and the values of the letters of a given word are added to reach a total.



There different kinds of Gematria, depending on the value that is assigned to each letter.

The Jewish Gematria, for example, doesn't assign the same values to the letters that are assigned by the English Gematria.

So, the Jewish Gematria and the English Gematria come to different values to the same word.
