There are several ways:

1) Inflate currency until the numerical value of the debt is trivial.

2) Default

3) Make it impossible for the creditors to collect the debt.

4) Create a situation where more debt HAS to be purchased somehow (maybe a "quarantine" of critical shipping routes, etc). This has actually been done on a "small" scale in the form of energy price manipulation (high oil prices) through security scares and other manipulation.


As for #3, this is interesting with respect to the recent goings on in China. I have no doubt that the CIA/Mi6 are attempting to create as much discord as possible in various factions vying for control in China. If there is a succession/power crisis there, it could create a situation where the debt instruments there become much less liquid (legal question to proper ownership, etc.) That alone would affect things, let alone the possibility that this debt could become invalid altogether (my understanding is this is less likely, someone else comment on this).

Plus like I said in an earlier post, the article does make a really great point about all these politically risky things (like NDAA, large ammo purchases) duing an election year. That is true. Thing like that don't win a lot of votes.
