[ link to quakemap.co.nz] Have a look at this map of the over 4.0 mag quakes we have had already this year I do not have the time, but it would be a very interesting exercise to compare this list to usgs lists and see just how few of them are in there Why don't you have the time? You've already found the geonet numbers, just do the same search on usgs. Given the amount of time you seem to spend on this site, a couple of minutes research is surely worth the effort. Let's spend that two minutes on it, shall we...? [ link to neic.usgs.gov] There you go, about 111 M4+ earthquakes recorded by the USGS in the rough vicinity of NZ. Does that help?
