Cyclone Freda and now Cyclone Mitchell 29th dec 2012

CYOB #3.. Cyclone Observation #3. There appears to be two Cyclones within AustraliA region and 2 more possibilities. Cyclone Freda was called early this morning and is 995 hp and intensifying. Possible Cyclone Mitchell is forming off the North West coast of Western AustraliA and at this point in time its tracking is offshore west of Carnivon region at this stage. This is just observations. Please research all possible information and warnings about these events at the www.bom.gov.au .. A busy New Year in the Atmosphere.

Climate change can cause volcanic eruptions

The evidence from a ten-year research project into the volcanoes of Central America indicates that climate change can also cause volcanic eruptions. Researchers have observations of ash layers in the seabed and have reconstructed the history of volcanic eruptions for the past 460,000 years. A clear match in patterns appeared after comparing previous patterns with the climate history. Periods of high volcanic activity followed fast global temperature increases and rapid melting of ice. Studies of other cores from the entire Pacific region also showed precisely the same pattern.

In periods of global warming the glaciers are melting on the continents much faster, causing sea level rises. Scientists from GEOMAR (Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel) explain when the weight on the continents decreases, the weight on the oceanic tectonic plates increases; so the stress changes within in the Earth to open more routes for ascending magma. When the ice sheets melted and the ocean basins filled with water more volcanic eruptions, more earthquakes and sub-marine landslides occurred.

Volcanologist Bill McGuire explains that this is caused by the Earth’s crust bouncing and bending in response to the melting of the great ice sheets and the filling of the ocean basins. As ice sheets melted, the Earth below bounced back, while sea basins bended to take the additional water. McGuire pointed out that while these changes would not cause geological events to take place that would not have happened anyway at some point in the future, he did warn that these events could become more concentrated with climate change.

New study reveals that we are currently at the end of a really warm phase. The rate of global cooling at the end of the warm phases is much slower, so there are less dramatic stress changes during these times. However, the impact from human-made warming is still unclear based on current understanding.

According to Oxford University geologists Ben Mason and David Pyle. The Earth has volcanic seasons, with eruptions happening most frequently between November and April in the Northern Hemisphere. There are many sleeping volcanoes and fault lines under the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets that could potentially reawaken.

Volcanoes can impact climate change also. During major explosive eruptions huge amounts of volcanic gas, aerosol droplets, and ash are injected into the stratosphere. Injected ash falls rapidly from the stratosphere within several days to weeks and has little impact on climate change. But volcanic gases like sulfur dioxide can cause global cooling, while volcanic carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, has the potential to promote global warming.

The most significant climate impacts from volcanic injections into the stratosphere come from the conversion of sulfur dioxide to sulfuric acid, which condenses rapidly in the stratosphere to form fine sulfate aerosols. The aerosols increase the reflection of radiation from the Sun back into space, cooling the Earth’s lower atmosphere or troposphere.

While sulfur dioxide released in contemporary volcanic eruptions has occasionally caused detectable global cooling of the lower atmosphere, the carbon dioxide released in contemporary volcanic eruptions has never caused detectable global warming of the atmosphere. This is probably because the amounts of carbon dioxide released in contemporary volcanism have not been of sufficient magnitude to produce detectable global warming.

Earthquake Cloud Phenomena

May, 09,2008, 2 days b4 this chinese deadly earthquake, somebody took these photos in Linyi, Shandong province, east China, which you can see lot “line-shaped” cloud, and somebody spot it is Earthquake Cloud and predicted a 6+ earthquake will happen within 2 days, but they dont know where. Of course, nobody believe them that time. Then, 12, May, a 7.8 earthquake occurred in Wenchuan, Sichuan province, west China.

Philippine storm death toll rises to 11

December 28, 2012 – PHILIPPINES – The death toll from a tropical storm that hit the central Philippines on Christmas Day has risen to 11 with thousands more forced out of their homes by landslides and flooding, officials said Friday. Tropical Storm Wukong has caused new destruction just weeks after Typhoon Bopha hit the south of the country, flattening whole communities and killing more than 1,000 people. Most of Wukong’s victims died from drowning, while three died when a tree fell onto their home, according to the official disaster monitoring council, which added that two people remained missing. It said that more than 13,000 people were in evacuation centres due to flooding and landslides caused by the latest storm, which affected the islands of Samar, Leyte Cebu and Panay. But regional disaster officer Celeste Milan expressed confidence the death toll would not rise much higher as people had taken precautions, with some having evacuated their homes before the storm hit. “It won’t be like Bopha. This was more just rain. Bopha was a super typhoon. This (Wukong) was just a tropical depression,” Milan said. Wukong weakened as it blew out westward to the South China Sea. Relief efforts are still ongoing in areas of the southern Philippines where whole towns were wiped out by Bopha, the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year. Deep Earth tremors may foretell major earthquakes

December 29, 2012 – SEATTLE - Tiny tremors, smaller than earthquakes, are shaking the Cascadia subduction zone deep beneath the Pacific Northwest. The Cascadia subduction zone is where two of Earth’s tectonic plates meet in an epic collision and one haltingly slides below the other. The Cascadia Fault stretches for almost 700 miles (1,100 kilometers) from Northern California up to Canada. The force required to shove a piece of ocean crust into Earth’s mantle can produce mega-earthquakes along the zone, as in Japan and Sumatra. But unlike its western Pacific cousins, the Cascadia subduction zone has not experienced a major earthquake since 1700, when an estimated 9.0-magnitude earthquake generated an enormous tsunami that killed trees in Puget Sound and traveled across the ocean to Japan. The slow-slip and tremors observed in the area are periodic, coming about every 15 months, said Stanford geophysics professor Paul Segall, and were first spotted in 2003. The slow-slip earthquakes creep along the fault at about 4 mph (6.4 kph), for two weeks at a time. The tremors hum about 18 miles (30 km) below Earth’s surface, deeper than the zone where big earthquakes rupture. Some scientists think the tremors are evidence of the sinking tectonic plate slowly dropping into the Earth, which may “load” the shallower, locked zone of the fault. Segall’s group uses computational models of the region to determine whether the cumulative effects of many small events can trigger a major earthquake. The research simulates the slow-slip and tremors on a computer model of the subduction zone. Segall noted that the model needs refinement to better match actual observations on the subduction zone — the decade of intriguing seismic monitoring records that revealed the tremors. He hopes to possibly identify the signature of events that could trigger a large earthquake. “You have these small events every 15 months or so, and a magnitude-9 earthquake every 500 years. We need to known whether you want to raise an alert every time one of these small events happens,” Segall said in a statement. -MSNBC
