SuperMoon Hangout - Links & Photos.
So, with tonight being the Super Moon event, I figured we could use a thread to communicate our experiences and post pictures and what not.

So, without further ado, please start posting your thoughts, opinions, and any other material you feel pertinent to the Super Moon event.

Some say the moon is capable of causing earthquakes and tsunamis, do you feel that this is possible? Why or why not?

Is the moon starting a more elliptical orbit because of the alleged "Nibiru"? Or maybe it has something to do with the increasing solar activity?

Please, join in on the discussion and let us watch as the moon causes havoc, or, at the very least, gives us an awe-inspiring sight tonight.

Stay tuned.

So, here is an article from NPR about earthquakes and the supermoon. Of course, they say it doesn't cause earthquakes:

Here is an article from Dicovery.com, and although they sometimes let some "truth" slip out on the television, they are also claiming that the supermoon will not cause any earthquakes or tsunamis:

Here we have an article from theweek.com which seems to lean towards the fact that the supermoon could, in fact, have consequences. It may not "break the world in two", but it certainly could wreak havoc on our weather patterns.

FACT: A supermoon event occurred right before hurricane Katrina formed.

Oddly enough, even though this has actually been a common occurrence as of late, there has been quite a high number of ~5 mag. earthquakes today.

Maybe we will see a big one pop off tonight? Or maybe even Mt. Popo will spit at us a bit?

I actually went outside to get a picture for the other thread, but saw you “Got no lovins” and came here. The sky is too cloudy for me, wasn't earlier though, lovely pale white and glowing. It stood out nicely and certainly lit the sky and clouds up. But I am sorry, can't really get a good picture anymore.

I'm sorry, I really hope it clears up for ya.

It's starting to get a bit cloudy here and no sign of the moon just yet. I reall yhope that it stays clear enough for me to get a few good pictures. I'll post them here if I can get any.

Looking forward to some pictures from those of you who can get some.

I'll be sure to check your photos when you update :). How do you plan to take the pictures? What kind of camera and what kind of area? As in will it have much light pollution, here where I am.. Well.. The light pollution is terrible, any photos I could of taken would of ended up with 40% ambient light from around me I bet.

Good luck though, hope the pictures turn out amazing.

Nothing special, a Canon PowerShot A2000 IS.

It does get the job done though. It may be a little cloudy here, only time will tell. I'm looking forward to seeing this baby, and I hope it's huge!

Either way, it should make for some great photo opportunities.

We could only hope. Earthquakes are certainly on the rise, but I'm not sure if the supermoon will push that agenda or not.

What phone booth does this supermoon use to change in? Must be a huge cape.

OK, not THAT funny. I do have my scope ready.

I have a few guesses, but hey, those who are bragging about it “Coming soon” so often, I hope they rush onto GLP to say “I told you so” and waste their last moments, or run around crying like little girls. tounge

But I'm with you, I may have a fascination with the predictions of doom, but I would never wish it on this planet or anyone.

Thanks for the bump.

I did too, trust me, but I'm a bit OCD and I need a change often. So...there it is.

Also changed my wallpaper.

Alright, I can see it here, but it isn't really even photograph-worthy as of yet. It's supposed to be at its fullest in about an hour and a half, maybe then it'll be a bit more spectacular.

As of right now, this is quite the dissappointment.

I'm in NY. The "supermoon" is supposed to be at it's peak right now, and i'll tell you what:

It's bright, but it's not big at all. It looks like a small marble in the sky like it always does.

Not sure what the hoopla is all about. Very disappointed. It looks like any other full moon. Is there somewhere in the world where it's supposed to look big?
