It is down because of permanent damage and they decided not to rebuild. It used information from the ACE satellite and you ones don't even seem to know that. There are other sites functioning fine. You can suspect games when all the other satellites go down. I have a list of sites I use every day on my thread. BAT R US, although it uses a different imagery works fine in fact. Thread: Nip's solar/quake thread for other linkies, I am not in the mood to post them all again here.

In that the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology ("NICT" below), part of the Web site had been tampered with by unauthorized access, it was discovered around 00 minutes (Tuesday) 5:00 pm May 1.


Therefore, the same day, found immediately after unauthorized access measures were disconnected from the network server equipment inside and outside the appropriate mechanism. Details are currently under investigation.

Ok so...

NICT is a visual representation of ACE data. ACE is still up and running and that was where NICT got it's data from. NICT just made it easier for non-professionals (I.e morons from GLP) to understand it.
Scientists can interpret ACE data without some pretty pictures. They probs shut it down because it kept breaking and stalling and wasn't transferring ACE data well enough.
Personally I'm glad it's gone, it should stop people thinking the magnetosphere is 'WHITE HOT' hahahaha.

I wish some of you could spend just ONE HOUR with a real scientist.

I wish you could share info with us without condescension and arrogance. We all do the best that we can, some of us are not scientists, many we care, and want to learn...

Devils advocate here again. Could it be that all of us are using the site and burning up all there bandwidth? Could it be that it got too expensive to keep the site up? I know theirs a lot of magnetosphere activity right now but you gotta look at what could really caused them to shut the page down. just my 2 cents

A successful site like that could always increase their bandwdith very cheaply if they had the right hosting. If it got to be too expensive, they could have used banner advertising or Google Adsense to increase revenue.

I highly doubt that it got too expensive to run therefore.

I've been trawling through the NICT magnetosphere simulation videos ever since I read this. I was trying to predict whether we would see another Carrington Event in the near future.

One hit could destroy our domestic gas pipes, mains cables and every wire down to the tracks on our computer systemboards.

The electromagnetic flux could induce electric currents in our bodies, triggering involuntary muscle movements, heart spasms and failures.

In 1959, numerous sunspots were recorded just before a huge geomagnetic storm caused the following:

The NASA guy should be very worried about another Carrington Event in our lifetime. If he was telling the truth, he was aware that the Sun was going to "boil over" very soon.
