Quoting: Nobody in Particular It is down because of permanent damage and they decided not to rebuild. It used information from the ACE satellite and you ones don't even seem to know that. There are other sites functioning fine. You can suspect games when all the other satellites go down. I have a list of sites I use every day on my thread. BAT R US, although it uses a different imagery works fine in fact. Thread: Nip's solar/quake thread for other linkies, I am not in the mood to post them all again here. [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] well shit, it hasn't updated since may 3 either, Neither has SOHO. hmmmm Doom's on Broseph |

"Web services have been terminated"! Very interesting! Ok so... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15573349 NICT is a visual representation of ACE data. ACE is still up and running and that was where NICT got it's data from. NICT just made it easier for non-professionals (I.e morons from GLP) to understand it. Scientists can interpret ACE data without some pretty pictures. They probs shut it down because it kept breaking and stalling and wasn't transferring ACE data well enough. Personally I'm glad it's gone, it should stop people thinking the magnetosphere is 'WHITE HOT' hahahaha. I wish some of you could spend just ONE HOUR with a real scientist. I wish you could share info with us without condescension and arrogance. We all do the best that we can, some of us are not scientists, many we care, and want to learn... OneLOVE |

OneLOVE He still has a valid point, condescension aside. The type of info you seek should be gleaned from a bona fide scientist face-to-face, not from tards on a conspiracy site. Find the nearest college/university. Find an astronomer and a physicist. Find out what their open office hours are. Have all of your questions clearly written out beforehand and be polite. Coming to GLP is not the best you can do. Stop fooling yourself. |

Could it be that it got too expensive to keep the site up? I know theirs a lot of magnetosphere activity right now but you gotta look at what could really caused them to shut the page down. just my 2 cents Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11270410 A successful site like that could always increase their bandwdith very cheaply if they had the right hosting. If it got to be too expensive, they could have used banner advertising or Google Adsense to increase revenue. I highly doubt that it got too expensive to run therefore. |

"Web services have been terminated"! Very interesting! Remember this thread? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15274152 Thread: Getting laid of from NASA time to spill the beans. I've been trawling through the NICT magnetosphere simulation videos ever since I read this. I was trying to predict whether we would see another Carrington Event in the near future. One hit could destroy our domestic gas pipes, mains cables and every wire down to the tracks on our computer systemboards. The electromagnetic flux could induce electric currents in our bodies, triggering involuntary muscle movements, heart spasms and failures. In 1959, numerous sunspots were recorded just before a huge geomagnetic storm caused the following: "Telegraph systems all over Europe and North America failed, in some cases even shocking telegraph operators. Telegraph pylons threw sparks and telegraph paper spontaneously caught fire. Some telegraph systems appeared to continue to send and receive messages despite having been disconnected from their power supplies." Quoted from [link to en.wikipedia.org] Here's a slightly scary example our sun shield getting a bashing late last year courtesy of NICT. Note how the pressure goes off the scale (the white area facing the Sun) The NASA guy should be very worried about another Carrington Event in our lifetime. If he was telling the truth, he was aware that the Sun was going to "boil over" very soon. Please, don't have nightmares! It might not happen for a while. The Carrington Event happened in 1859, most definitely not in 1959. I am sure the website downtime is some regular maintenance. Or perhaps they will upgrade the service, discontinuing the old one. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Even if the Sun erupts only major, long distance metal wires would be affected. Not our home electronics, or bodies. |

OneLOVE ^^This^^^ Spent much of my life with real scientists. Three close relatives with Phds ... 2 in Physics, 1 in Chemistry. All three hold tenured positions at major Universities, AND all 3 are serious preppers. Hmmmmm ... wonder why? At least those of us on GLP who are not experts in the hard sciences are trying to learn & trying to be part of a solution, as opposed to part of the sheeple problem, when/if another Carrington Event occurs. We would love to benefit from your knowledge and perspective. :o) Fate whispers to the warrior "You cannot withstand the storm" the warrior whispers back "I am the storm" INTJ-A |
