Re: GREECE - NO AGREEMENT TO FORM A NEW GOVERNMENT!!! SAMARAS SAYS UNABLE TO FORM GOVERNMENT, HANDING MANDATE BACK TO PRESIDENT!!!
Theoretically it is possible to form a new gov even if less than 151 seats are secured. All it needs is a big party (ND) to give a confidence vote. Of course the gov could fall at any given time but if IMF, EU and co push enough a re-election would not be acceptable so one way or another a new gov will be formed just to pass more austerity measures.
The risk in this scenario is - for them - that when a new election comes, left wing SYRIZA might be able to win 1st place this time.

Golden Dawn, what a cool name for a party. What do they believe in though?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15677895

They believe in Hitler. And their name is easyly renamed as Golden Eggs if you change the last letter in both Greek words, to "A".

He who wins war writes History... Dont believe everything you read is a statement probably lost as you are already on GLP but just had to re-iterate.

If you werent there you dont know that it happened.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14145411

My friend, i don't have to read the history to learn about the "accomplishments" of Hitler. I just visit the Greek cemeteries that our ancestors are. If you think that Hitler was a great person for Australia, then ok by me. But keep in mind, that here, in Rethymno Crete, we do have a place that we honor the help of the Australian army in the fight against the one that you so much adore.

Dont misunderstand where my comments come from... however the situation in Greece from where we see it is not good. I dont think he has stated anything that quite frankly should not be done. Do they believe in Hitler or what the Nationalist ideal comes from?

Not good at all indeed. Trust me, i know it. But this specific party have the same believes as nazism. Greece above all, but in the way of "Deutschland über alles", not the patriotic way, most of their members are skinheads and we know where skinheads come from, they have a swastika like emblem but in a more Greek way of showing it and they salute like nazis.
They might speak a patriotic speach, but this is what Hitler did with Germans also. Patriotic speaches are good, if they come from patriots. "They" want to dictate "their" patriotism to all of us.

If this sounds racist darn who cares... they dont assimilate into the country they move to. You move to a country respect it. I dont move to saudi arabia cause i know i wont assimilate... they should return the favour.

Things might go fast now for Greece. Next loan given to them is end of may; after, the next one, is end of june.

Right now it stands that the majority does not want loans, nor bailouts and for sure no reforms.

That means they exit the euro zone, and that means that in the chaos afterwards the military takes control of the country.

That would pobably be the best thing for them right now.

Within the EU or without, the way ahead for Greece will be with blood and tears.

The answer is no. If all the parties, except N.D., PASOK and the neo-nazis (which nobody wants them) are added then we have a total of 130 seats. In order to form a goverment, 151 seats is a must.

I cannt agree more. As I have state before the possibility of a civil war within 2012 is very likely. But this will triger events that will lead the rest of South Europe in unrest. Turkey is also waiting for something like this. Now add the situation in Syria which is also a neighbor with Turkey and you'll see that thinks are not good at all. This senario exist more than a year. It started rumored when Papandreou changed the divisions of the country and gave more powers to the local leaders. From one side I am happy that we didn't vote for the bailout partys as it was thought on the other side I am scared of what the next day will be even in this case.

Normally I wouldn't be too concerned about what Greece is doing.
However
With the state of ALL of the worlds economy's on rocky ground and France turning "far left" and Greece moving "far right" and Spain, Italy and Portugal near collapse and Germany calling the shots and Russia moving back to it's USSR way of doing things...

I'm beginning to see some similarities between now and the last 2 world wars.
People taking sides that are diametrically opposed. The USA trying to stay neutral...

Deja vu ????

GREECE: This Is What Comes Next

Greece's government is still up in the air in the aftermath of yesterday's elections.

The conservative party New Democracy announced earlier today that it will not be able to form a coalition government that would allow Greece to form a new government.

This means that only a handful of options are now available for the struggling country:

A successful last-ditch effort to form a government after a meeting with all party leaders.

Snap elections, as early as June 10 or 17.

PASOK forms a narrow coalition with a left-wing leader and support from both New Democracy and the Democratic Left. This would give them a narrow majority of 168 seats.

Each of the three leading parties gets three days to form a government. As New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras found such a prospect under his leadership hopeless, the buck now moves on to Syriza chief Alexis Tsipras. His far-left party has rejected the terms of the bailout, and called his party's views "diametrically opposed" to those of New Democracy.

Various experts, however, have told us that the likelihood of a Syriza-sponsored government is slim. Wolfgang Piccoli of the Eurasia Group wrote in a note today, "Any attempt by Syriza to create an alternative anti-bailout government composed by leftist parties is set to face a quick dead-end. Vast ideological differences, conflicting personalities and the mere parliamentary arithmetic make the creation of such a government impossible."

The buck would then pass to PASOK. A Greek source tells us that PASOK might be able to push through a coalition with a left-wing leader and support from New Democracy, however others doubt that support for such a coalition by a third party—like the Democratic Left, which rejected ND this morning—would be forthcoming.

If all three parties fail, Greek President Karolos Papoulias will call leaders of all seated parties together in a last-ditch effort to avoid new elections.

A second round of elections after failure to form a government would not be unprecedented, as such an event happened back in 1989. However, it is unclear that a new round of elections would actually change the voter distribution and empower the leading PASOK and New Democracy parties, which have the best chance numerically of coming together to form a coaltion.

The final scenario—new elections—would likely be the most devastating for markets, given that persistent insecurity about the likelihood of a Greek exit from the euro could ravage markets through June.

By the end of that month, the Greek government will have to decide on a new round of future spending cuts in 2013 and 2014, equivalent to 7 percent of GDP. The troika (EU leaders, the European Central Bank, and the IMF) are likely to withhold funding earmarked for Greece as part of the country's bailout programs until these measures are passed.

According to a government official cited by Dow Jones, Greece has enough money to last unti late July, though finances "will be tight." Since Greek leaders of all parties appear to now agree that Greece will need to renegotiate the terms of its bailout, this likely spells heightened uncertainty in the markets as we head into the summer months.

The last three and a half years have many similarities with the 30s. This is, I fear, a part of a well played plan to lead the world to a war. This has began with arabic spring (which actually is not over yet) and is going to contaminate the south Europe countrys. Hope this is all consiparacy theories and nothing more but the signs are not good at all.

Sunday's eurozone elections end with a couple neo-Nazis in Greek parliament.

First the scoreboard:

Dow: 13,008, -29.7, -0.2%
S&P 500: 1,369, +0.5, +0.0%
NASDAQ: 2,957, +1.4, +0.0%

And now the top stories:
As expected, France voted socialist party leader Francois Hollande to the presidency, replacing incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy. Hollande is opposed to the eurozone's existing fiscal compact. Rather, he favors more ECB involvement and higher domestic taxes.
The Greek elections, on the other hand, were much more interesting. Incumbent parties PASOK and New Democracy won only around 35 percent of voter support. Seats were split among five other parties including the KKE (communists) and Golden Dawn (neo-Nazis). That's right, neo-Nazis. And their symbol resembles the swastika. This Is What You Need To Know About The Crisis In Greece >
Analysts were quick to sound off on all of the elections. Deutsche Bank's George Saravelos called it a "significant market-negative surprise." With anti-austerity parties in parliament, current planned cuts are less likely to go through, which puts future bailout funds at risk. Goldman's Themistoklis Fiotakis shared Saravelos' sentiment. Citi economists have boosted the odds of a "Grexit," or Greek exit from the eurozone, to a range of 50 to 75 percent. Here's What Comes Next For Greece >
Surprisingly, markets were showed remarkable resilience. Barclays' Barry Knapp attributed the optimism to upcoming U.S. presidential election. "Elections breed optimism, and the idea that we might get a new CEO of the country really could trigger a fair bit of resiliency in the markets and perhaps even a rally as we get closer to the elections," Knapp told Bloomberg. Bank of America strategist Savita Subramanian actually boosted her year-end target on the S&P 500 to 1,450. David Bianco Presents: 20 Guiding Principles For Investing In The Stock Market >
The markets ended the day on a strong economic note. According to the Federal Reserve, consumer credit expanded by $21.3 billion in March, crushing expectations of $9.8 billion.

If new elections in June, the fascist New Dawn will triumph similar to Nazis in 1930 German elections. New Dawn smell power and will march in rallies with strong representation of their committed militants (black shirts) to convince desperate Greeks. Human nature of weak minded will take the chance with them and they will enter Parliament as either largest or second largest party....

New Dawn smell power and will march in rallies with strong representation of their committed militants (black shirts) to convince desperate Greeks. Human nature of weak minded will take the chance with them and they will enter Parliament as either largest or second largest party....

it would be better for the neo-nazis for there to be a government for a year or two of utter collapse and despair. a month isn't enough time to go from 7 percent to forming a government

Of course voting for the same "democratic" traitors that brought our countries in the mess they are in now would be strong and wise? Not. Hail Greece! Hail Golden Dawn!
