Pretty sad that schools can do this. Not like there's better things to do.. like focus on educating the children.
So I guess a mowhawk gets you 3 days out of school now.

"That's what we are supposed to be teaching our children," said his mother Ashley Fay. "To not be the same as everyone else"

But his mom says standing out got her first grader suspended from Roosevelt Elementary school for three days.

"We didn't understand why just him," said Fay. "There are other kids with crazier hair cuts then what he has in the school."
 Quoting: Sako

The haircut is silly looking, but not sure why it would be grounds for suspension. I clicked the link expecting to see some purple mohawk or something.

Silly? It is just a little more than a high and tight like what the military wears. I cut hair for years and the cut on this 5 year old is far from deserving a 3 day suspension. That is not an unusual hair cut. It isn't even technically a mohawk, although I can see why some would think so. There is no common sense in schools anymore. These children can be medicated, or taught hard corn porn, or subjected to horrid medical procedures without parental knowledge or consent. The kid is 5. He has no piercings, black fingernail polish, small dishes shoved into his earlobes or vampire teeth. He plays with toy cars and probably has no idea of the total idiocy of the school administration concerning his hair. What would you expect though, these are people who arrest students for possession of aspirins ... it surprises me also that these pinhead teachers are in a smaller city in the middle of the Prairie. Perhaps that is the problem. There may be Indians that still raid the villages and take scalps there. I thought the Mohawks were all in The North East.

get ur kids out of public schools - home school via
connections academy [link to www.connectionsacademy.com]
its free.

they supply ur kids w/computers - desktop or lap, printer, cam etc.

one to one teaching - higher grades and accredited.

no worries about peer pressure, bullying, gossip and cliques.

and no concerns re abuse of power and extreme discipline

takes less than a week to get enrolled & approved.

Thank you, I am considering it.

they still can do sports, music et al thru ur school district even drivers ed - bc ur taxes pay for that.

no losses - you gain.

you will find their education improves 150%

They suspend kids for the most ridiculous stuff, my son, a few years back, was suspended for a day for what they called vandalism - what he did was jam a stapler - no exaggeration! Once they realize you fall for their crap they keep doing it unless you stand up to them, which I finally did. Homeschooling isn't an option for me besides. I had my own breaking point/final straw with the school and haven't been called once this year since I stood up to them and raised proverbial hell, professionally of course lol.

Edited to add, there is nothing wrong with that kid's hair cut in my opinion.

In AZ, we do AZVA, and when in CA we did CAVA.

This is for our oldest 14 year old daughter.

Our 7 year old is in the public school system her in AZ.

If they give us any shit, then she will be in AZVA as well.

We typically start to homeschool after the 6th grade anyways.

And a short mohawk too, I was expecting the kid to look like a chicken if his haircut got him suspended. Wonder if the school was just targeting him, his mom even said that there were kids with crazier haircuts that didnt get in trouble.

Not silly at all actually...looks pretty close to a marine cut (just high 'n tight) - not even a real mohawk. The only people that need to be suspended are the idiot administrators/teachers/adults making an issue out of this.

Id thought the same thing. As a lot of men and boys in Kansas wear similar haircuts. And with the humidity I dont blame them and sometimes want to give myself a crew cut. 5a

I suppose the reason I think its silly is because young men wear their hair like that now. But when they get old and age the bald spot comes in around that area. Sort of cute in a way. So anyway. I dont know why you felt the need to chew my ass. But I agree with you. He's normal and its enraging to see children dictated. You know what's really beginning to bug the shit out of me? We see more and more of these stories about tyranical school officials shoving their dictatorial and nonsensical stupidity down ours (and our kids') throats, almost daily stories of some kid getting suspended or expelled for something a simple detention or paddling would have easily resolved (in our day), and regular stories of "official misconduct" on almost every level from local government, to our schools, to the police departments, through the state and of course all the way up to the White house. YET, we continue to sit here and bitch about it on a forum (or at the bottom of the article) instead of marching in unison to our mayors' offices, city council or school board, and DEMANDING that they fix this shit.

If enough of the community population would simply rise up in this way, I guarantee you that it would change. I know it is difficult for most of us to focus the energy these days, but it is an absolute imperative now. These people have been given way too much free reign for way too long, and I believe that it is about time for a change back to reality - but it has to start locally.

I am fortunate enough to live in a community where the public schools are excellent, and they still treat our kids like kids - no zero tolerance, and no suspensions for haircuts or even a fight. That said, the first time something like this happens here, I will personally rally everyone in my community (and we live in a big one) to shove that ridiculous response right up the official's and school board's collective asses. Fortunately, I wouldn't have to work very hard, because everyone here pretty much thinks the same way, and the school principals/administrators know it. Maybe that's why our schools are some of the best in the country....

I agree. People should start sending emails and make phone calls instead of just voicing our opinions on a forum. Changes are coming though. Not everyone is able to rally. I seen this on KWCH facebook. And started going on about how America has turned into a dictatorship. Many people agree. And are waking up. Slowly. But are coming to their right mind.

Things like this happen frequently. But rarely make the news. People should start community home schooling and such. Well. I know in my community, theres many farm wives who do this. Im glad to live in a town that somewhat resembles how America is SUPPOSED to be all over.

I didn't "chew your ass" really. If I were to do that I could do much better. You called the hair cut "silly" and I thought you must have a contorted image of silly. That kid has one of the most conservative cuts available. I also am from Kansas and I am so tired of Kansas making the news because of perverted killers, cattle running through the streets of the large cities because of trucks overturning or because the cows outsmart the cops. Tornadoes, little old ladies throwing hatchets in bars ... just the most stupid things imaginable ... we hit the national news .... and now this. The last time I went to California someone asked me where I was from ... I said Wichita and they said ... FALLS ....? Thats Texas! People think we still have Cowboys and Indians here .... We do .. some of the Cowboys are among the wealthiest people in the country and the Indians, famous artists. I think we deserve better than to be recognized by the idiocy of some ill-qualified (obviously) buffoon of a principal who gets attention by bullying a small boy with a decent haircut. At least we deserved the attention when the BTK was running amok. Now our state has become a joke, and this is only somewhat better than the stupid TSA agent who accused the 7 or 8 year old girl of hiding a 45 cal. revolver in her Teddy Bear when the little girl hugged her Grandmother.

Sako, I think the poster was replying to me - I'm the one who posted that the haircut is silly and I said I clicked the link expecting to see a mohawk, like a wild purple one or something.

To the other poster: I stand by my opinion that it's silly looking.

I don't think it deserved a suspension, and I wonder if there's more to this story than what's reported there.

There are far worse things kids could do in terms of appearance, but geez, why not just give the kid a regular haircut and let it all be. He can express personal individuality later on - there is zero reason for ANY elementary school kid to be making a statement about personal appearance.

As with most of these stories - the blame always goes back to the parents.

I am fortunate enough to live in a community where the public schools are excellent, and they still treat our kids like kids - no zero tolerance, and no suspensions for haircuts or even a fight. NO zero tolerance?

NO suspensions for fights?

And you are proud of a school system that lets kids get away with anything?

Where do you draw the lines?

You don't want schools assuming authority, but they have to implement standards and rules.

Or should there just be total chaos, no rules, and teach kids there are no consequences to their actions?

And when parents don't do their goddamned jobs, SOMEONE else has to pick up the pieces.

Re: 6 year old suspended for his hair cut!!!!
...

Thats my opinion. If you read my other post you will see that I said haircuts like this are common in my state. (Where this story came from). Even if he did have black nails etc, its usually a phase and people grow from phases.

Oh I love Conservatives. Thats what we called sensible, at one time, and that is what the world was, in another time. I think you are a little over the top ... but ... I would take you over the brain-dead progressive Communist liberals any day ...!
