Why is a woman's clitoris so far away from the friction of intercourse?

You literally have to rub it with a finger to get the clit off while having intercourse. Why isn't it inside the entrance of the vagina where it would receive the rubbing sensation from the penis?
WHY????????????????
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1585083 It's actually in the ideal place, because a woman needs more time and stimulation during intercourse than a man. If you focus on that, you both should come at about the same time (without any 'finger play'). Problem with most men, is that they can't control themselves; they stimulate themselves first and always. Quoting: shenandoah 2636202 Completely untrue. It is true that there are some women that don't work quite right down there and can't achieve orgasm easily if at all but most girls, at least in my experience, climax far quicker than I do. Maybe I'm just a stud..
