Protesters call for shutdown of San Onofre nuclear plant [ link to www.ocregister.com] The protesters also called for the permanent decommissioning of the plant that sits just south of San Clemente. Evelyn Treais receives a rose from a masked man named Mark. He prefered to keep his identity secret. They were at a "Shut Down San Onofre" rally at San Onofre State Beach south of San Clemente Sunday. Mark said he was doing "random acts of kindness" for people that support an issue "that is important to us all". The protestors were trying to raise awareness of safety issues at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and called for shutting it down. "We just want people to wake up." The idle plant has had a series of recent problems. comment: SONGS has the worst safety record of all the nuclear plant in the country. One major accident there will effect 8.6 million people that live within a50 mile radius.
