The people who need religion to bemoral are natural sociopaths. They need an external system of rules to tell them what to do because they are incapable of knowing the nature and quality of a thing on their own. They have to be programmed or they will become monsters, and organized religion is needed to keep society from collapsing.

Not all people lack critical thinking skills like that, though, and they don't understandwhy religion is important. All they see is the corruption and abuse and rigid thinking of people who are in authoritarian religions. They want to eliminate religion to "free" people's minds from religion.

What atheists don't understand is that society wouldcollapse due to the degeneration of the natural sociopaths who lack infependent, critical thinking skills, if religion were eliminated.
