Youtube Buffering problems. Doesn't seem to buffer paused vids anymore. Anyone else?
My question is simple. I used to be able to start a vid on youtube. Pause it, let it buffer a while or until finished, then go back and watch it. Now it seems I am unable to get any youtube vids to buffer. I hit pause, it stops loading the video, and no matter how much time has gone by no amount of buffering of the video was done. Bandwidth is not a problem on my end, so it's not that.

Anyone else experience this? I did do some searches on here and elsewhere to see if I could figure this out, couldn't find anything.

Has Youtube disabled buffering? So if you are not actively watching a video it won't load it?

it buffers for a short time ahead now. it won't load the whole video if it's paused. they must be trying to save bandwidth.

I download with real player then watch when downloaded.
Have to use chrome browser as IE wont decode video

I don't have that problem with youtube but yes, youporn and mobile boner (which you frequent mostly) have disabled this function.

Sorry about that and have a great night!

That was my guess, that youtube is trying to save bandwidth. But the buffering is either too short or non-existent now. WTF?

Its funny I've never even heard of youporn or mobile boner haha did you make those up?

And no, I am talking Youtube (youtube.com) specifically. This seems to be a recent thing for me. At least you are not affected, now if I could only figure out why. Perhaps it only buffers for registered users? So I should login? Any thoughts?

Do you have comcast? I have had the same problem for the last couple of years and I am supposed to have extreme high speed internet.

Thing is, I noticed that all youtube videos I watch aren't coming from a youtube server; they're coming from a comcast cache. So it looks to me like comcast is throttling or whatever it's called, my downloads....and yours to from how it sounds.

You're the first person I've seen complain about it. I was going to complain to comcast but never got around to it.

With me, I had to take a long trip, 4 hours, and I wanted to pre-download several videos on youtube to listen to while I drove since I don't have mobile wireless. But with comcast, they fuck ya. I guess I could still do it but would have to listen or at least let them play through first just to get them downloaded for later re-play.

It's bullshit. And it appears to be comcast. Check out your status line down at the bottom left of your screen while the videos are downloading and you'll see where it's actually being downloaded from. Let me know what you find.

I was kidding but yes those are real.

Youtube has been doing this for awhile now. It only buffers for a small delay when paused.

I do not have comcast. AT&T the highest speed DSL they can get me. 3.0mbps down.

The vids come directly from youtube servers, so unlike comcast, AT&T has not yet setup a cache server of frequently played vids. But perhaps it is coming soon.

How long would you say? I remember a month or two ago, no problems... For long vids, and vids in HD, it makes watching practically impossible now. I guess I'll have to download the vids and then watch them, as streaming is now completely useless. Who wants to watch a vid that pauses every 10 seconds to load more? ugh...

Towards the bottom of the page look and see if you have been "volunteered" to participate in the html5 trial. If you have then opt out of the program and then YouTube should work fine

The way I get around it is to let the whole thing play through muted in a minimised window then replay with the buffer full.

So you too are affected by this buffering issue? How long has it been?

With millions hitting the vid links and the youtube servers serving vids in full bandwwidth and some youhoo clicks off the vid. The server at youhoo just used bandwidth it could of saved by push technology.

I get nights where the little rotary goes round and round but no video plays.

Better to push just the amount of bandwidth the viewer wants instead of sending the entire megabit file only to have the viewer go fuck this and click off.

Otherwise, ya, download the file with a video download and watch later.

I've been experiencing the same issue lately (1 month or so) and it's really annoying. Muting the video works sometimes, but I have found that when it buffers the whole thing and I'm going to replay it, it will reload the entire video. I understand that bandwidth saving is the key here, but I just hate it

it still buffers the entire video 100% when you pause it..the weird thing is..it no longer does it with all videos..just some..maybe they did stop it with newer uploaded videos and not the videos uploaded a while ago..not sure but i noticed this myself..some will buffer all the way when paused while others do not buffer all the way to 100%..

It's happening to me as well. I know exactly what you mean. And it sucks if you have a slow internet connection.

Fox News and Twitter are also consistently giving me problems lately, as well as some, but not all, local news channels.

Re: Youtube Buffering problems. Doesn't seem to buffer paused vids anymore. Anyone else?
I noticed the same thing. I guess this means people who have slower connections can no longer view YouTube videos unless they can find a good downloader to view it on their HDD.

Although I prefer to view a fully buffered video, I can understand YouTube's position. After all, it is their website and video takes the most bandwidth.

I now have a high-speed connection so this does not affect me. However, I wouldn't mind finding a good, high quality, downloader. I'm looking for something which can download off any website, including YouTube and BBC. If anyone has found a downloader which can do this, please post a reply here. I don't care if I have to pay a little, up to $35.

I want a downloader which does not make major changes to my system, does NOT have adware, and does NOT have spyware or trojans.
