I am simply aghast at the arrogance of so many posters on here. Yes, I agree, Greece set itself up for a fall, and yes I agree that the financial industry and politicians are ultimately to blame every bit as much as the lazy elements amongst Greek society .

But, the truth is that non of you sitting there typing on your computer know what you would do facing absolute dire straits. The comments about African mothers who don't earn anything not giving up their kids is ridiculous. Greece is a modern, western nation, and bringing up kids, so that they can compete and have a decent chance of making a future, is very expensive. It is much, much, much more expensive to bring up kids in the west than in Africa, where many don't even have schools to go to, let alone a need to keep up with technology etc. I'm not saying any of that is fair, I'm just saying put yourself in their shoes. Imagine if you lost all ability to send your kids to school, to equip them for modern life... would you really hold onto them, just so that you could feel smug, if they had a chance to live somewhere where their needs were actually met? Would you really sentence your kids to lifelong hopeless destitution because you just wouldn't give them up?

No one wants to give up their kids, but what the article linked to by the OP highlights is how, when a modern, high-stress, high-pressure, developed economy crashes, many people will rapidly start facing heartbreaking and unavoidable choices.

The absurdity of the situation is only compounded by idiotic name-calling, bickering and arrogance amongst others, as evidenced on this site. It is now inevitable that Greece implodes, and it will take much of the rest of Europe with it. When Europe goes to hell in a handcart then North America will follow. Then we will all get to face such agonising problems - and god help you all.
