Re: Bye bye unemployment benefits
I just got laid off in April. I made $30 an hour and I was replaced by a robot.

The economy here is terrible. What jobs are available pay $9/hr.

And now, because the economy is 'improving' (obvious and utter BS), I will not be eligible for unemployment extensions when my 26 weeks of state aid run out later this year.

I DO NOT feel guilty about collecting unemployment insurance.

You idiots who think people collecting UI are lazy bums are ridiculous!

Do you understand what is happening here? This the start of the GREATEST DEPRESSION. This is the END OF WORK for a lot of people.

The world has changed. These jobs are never coming back.

We've been replaced by technology and slave labor overseas.

And this is just the very beginning of this Depression. The very first stages... it will get much worse.

So have some compassion for those out of work and spare us the insults, you will be joining us sooner or later and you'll be thankful for your UI when you do.

Whether the State will have any money left at that point is another matter.

Re: Bye bye unemployment benefits
In America, a person can work for a month, then tell his employer to fuck off and then collect unemployment for months and months and months.

On any given day you can see people pay for food with ebt cards and then get into brand new cars.

Insurance companies LOBBIED the government for socialized health care and AARP stands to make a billion dollars off forced insurance.

If they had of forced these companies to compete the price would have been driven WAY down making it affordable for everyone.

If we had a banking system that didn't print money like toilet paper and our money was worth something then it wouldn't matter if people made 10 bucks an hour. The money would buy all you need. Instead corporate America knows what that these crooks are doing and uses the devaluation of the money as a weapon against the poor forcing them to demand money from the upper and middle class' to help them (socialism) like dogs begging for scraps under the masters table.
Corporate and banking oligarch America OWNS the federal government. More government will not save us.

Its not relevant to the discussion. If you have savings that should be used first, period!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1324049

You are a complete idiot. Please, go kill yourself.

Dumbass, if he spends his savings first and its gone, then chances are he will have missed his ONLY CHANCE at getting unemployment. What is he to do then, dumbass? Well? Have you this thought at all, dumbass? Or do you just parrot your programing unthinkingly?

That's rhetorical, btw. You've already shown us it's the latter.

to the too dumb to think nuts who say "Get a Job"

what job? where?

They say unemployment in down to 8.1% is a lie-there are more people out of work now than in any time in history there are over 100,000,000 out of work-***BUT*** only 8.1% of that group are collecting unemployment-and they dont count you as "unemployed" unless you are getting a UE check

hell even using the U-6 table at the BLS shows true unemployment at 25%

no offense, but if you could be replaced by a robot, you were being way overpaid with $30/hour
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12917304

Robots made it so that 1 person could run 4 machines instead of 3.

There are 100 machines. Now they only need 25 people instead of 33.

I was the highest paid, hence in the first group to go. The goal is to get 1 person to 6 machines, so there will be many more in the days ahead. And those who survive will be working so hard that they will envy the dead.

There's plenty of field work here in Santa Barbara county picking strawberries and broccoli. Pays 400 a week and you don't even need to be a citizen. Hey, now I can pay back my student loan and remember fondly the 30 an hour I used to make, while working alongside illegals and improving my Spanish.

Or I can make the same sitting at home flipping channels and putting in some apps online for work that pays me what I'm worth that I am qualified to do all over the country, while trying to figure out how I'm going to relocate if I actually get a job.

I've paid more in taxes than I will ever make on unemployment.rant

EXACTLY!! This is a DEPRESSION!!!

And yet the sooner they can get people off benefits, the sooner the official number goes down and then they can trumpet a "lower" unemployment rate and "improving economy".

Meanwhile, in the real world, the Depression worsens as more and more people are removed from the tally. They become invisible, these People of the Abyss.

Anybody read Jack London? That's what's coming. Poverty like no one has ever seen in this country before.

THIS is your doom! No joke, no GLP effect is anywhere near strong enough to jinx it. The Greatest Depression is here NOW, this is what the early days look like.

The federal extended benefits program has provided the jobless with up to 20 weeks of unemployment checks after they've run through their state and their federal emergency benefits, which together last up to 79 weeks.
But the extended benefits program is expiring throughout the country as the economy improves. To be eligible for these benefits, a state must show that its unemployment rate is at least 10% higher than it was in at least one of the past three years. [link to money.cnn.com]

I am going to work for myself. There are no good jobs anymore, you have to make one for yourself.

And I don't insult myself with a demeaning application/interview process.
And I don't drug test.
And I don't spy on Facebook (not that I use FB).
And I don't value profits more than my employees.
And I won't fire myself and move my job to Burma.
And I won't turn my company into a sweatshop.

It seems to me the obvious solution.

To reach that goal we'd need manlike AI's doing all necessary work of a modern society. Thats not gonna happen in our lifetime.

Right now, in a globalized world we have to compete with an almost inexhaustible cheap Chinese workforce.

Considering that fact, the whole system in the west needs adjustments IMO. Negative income tax maybe, or/and a global minimum wage.

Huh??? In the State of Tn they look at how much money you made in 4 continous completed quarters and they then take that and you get a certain percentage of the unemployment wage than you can draw. For example if you work 1 month you can't draw If you worked for a year at a min wage job you won't draw but maybe 100 dolars a week.

In Tn the most you can draw is $275 a week BEFORE taxes.

The factory of where I work will pay you $9 an hr. You will be hired on through a temp service and will work 5 months a year for around 4-5 years before you can become a full time worker with benefits and your wage will increase to 13 an hr. You will still get laid off for months straight though.

Many of those jobs are being replaced by robots. We have elimated 17% of the workforce now with robots. Shoot maybe more We used to have 1300 people working. Its down quite a bit from that.

We have people whose plants shut down that were making $25 an hr and they say they have never worked so hard in their life. That this job should be $50 an hr.

The assembly line sucks major balls and will destroy your body in a few years. Some fall victim in a matter of a month or so.

You are then ushered out the door to be replaced by another desperate worker.

Re: Bye bye unemployment benefits
Man... I feel for those unemployed.

And for ANYONE busting on these people... shame on ya. It isn't that they don't wan to work, it is that the jobs are not there, and if they are, the companies are paying half of what they did 8 years ago.

I've been there... even have the t-shirt.

Went from 80+K a year in the development industry to 40K when the bottom fell out... and then due to my "new construction" speciality, and seeing no "new construction" for the past two years, a year & half ago, I lost my job...

And the industry has only shown a slight, if any improvement.

Being one not to stand in an unemployment office, or have to report weekly to some bojangle working at the unemployment office, I refused to take the "benefit"...

This past month, at the bitter end of my rope, and after...get this... 3 months to get a $10 per hour job (and drug tests, personality assessments, four different interviews...yea, I shook my head too), I got the job.

It's in a field of my hobby/passion... and I enjoy each day. (shorts to work, meals, out in the sun...and bike to work 4 miles away).

HANG TOUGH Amigo's... I highly suggest finding something, even if it's anything as long as it's a passion... at least the peanuts they pay will takes better.

Peace... and let's get these SOB's out of office ASAP!... Let's end the Fed ASAP... and let's get back to sound money and a Constitutional Republic.

We have managed to let all the above to be stolen right out from under us.

I couldn't imagine making $30 an hr. My brother makes that kinda money at his job. He lucked up in his job.

Him and his wife went out and bought a new car, then a new Expedition then had a new house built (3200 sq ft) then traded in their 2 year old Expedition for a new minivan when the baby was born. He bought an old mustang last month for his classic car.

They are living high off the hog not worrying about anything right now.

If his job leaves he is screwed. His wife would leave him because that is the only reason why she married him. She LOVES to go shopping and go on vacations.

He has an easy job just reading gauges and taking notes. He used to work where I do and he says that it isn't no comparison at all. He gets paid to goof off all the time and gets to work all he wants. They work 12 hr shifts and if you work more than 12 hrs in a day then it is time and a half. More than 3 days straight it is double time. Work on their shutdowns or during the holidays its triple. He made $90 an hour for a week straight around Christmas, he worked as many hrs as he could and slept at work. lol He can make more in a week than I could in 2 or 3 months.

It all depends on who you know to get a good job. To bad where he works doesn't hire family. :(
