Has anyone gotten a huge gas bill for heating home yet? What happened to Katrina winter no fuel disaster predictions?
Has anyone gotten a really large gas bill for heating their house yet?

Remember a couple of months ago everyone was saying there may not be gas this winter and gas bills are going through the roof.

Have you gotten one of those large bills yet and if so how bad was it.

Car gas is lower than it was last spring now.

So what happened to all the horror predictions? Will they still come or did Bush or someone pull something off till we are safe for the fuel for winter?

i fired my gas company. installed tankless electric water heaters. discovered other
electric heating alternatives. i´ve freed
myself from their tyranny.

I deal with a little cold and discomfort, but
it´s worth it to f*ck those greedy bastards at
their own game. F*CK EM!

Whats heat? Getting into the 20;s here at night, but warming into the 60´s. I use one burner on the stove for the whole house in the morning, I get up about 5 am or so. The only time it´s bad is just out of the shower. Dress warm if you come to visit me. I´m trying to climatize myself, less energy less bills and healther. I´ve never understood why people try to make it winter in the summer and summer in the winter. I use my heat at about 35 and my air at about 85. I realize that for small children or the sick that that may not be ideal, but man if you can do it you´ll save tonnes of money and energy.

We had a wood burning stove. We bought for y2k. It worked great, but we had to reroof the house and we didn´t want redo it, the first time it leaked a bit. Plus now I have small children at the house and my house is small and not big enough for playing children and a hot stove in the middle of my living room, but if stuff gets bad we may have to hooker up again. It´s still in the shed.

Natural gas. Bill was 32.00 for Sept. 120.00 for Oct. Usually don´t get over 100.00 until January. I´m doomed, too.

We lucked out with that storm Rita big time ...it could have it the major oil producing area in Houston and we all lucked out big time by the grace of God. And these people here just mock the whole heating bill thing...they mock the worst case scenario ....Arrogance ...pure arrogance. Pure mocking. They do not appreciate what they ducked. Keep using that arrogance and you wont luck out forever. Disrespectful thats what it is. You should be thanking your lucky stars. Instead they have contempt....LOL>..incredible.

Mocking?

My budget billing went from $238/month to $357/month.

Would you like to pay it for the next 12 months?

Geez, Dr. Who do you think is mocking here? Nearly all of the replies are from people who DO have those huge heating bills. Did we luck out too?
Worst case scenario? How´s this: if those oil company execs had not been brought before the congressional review board, gasoline prices would still be at $3.00/gal. You know and I know it. Only the fact that they were called on the price gouging made them drop the prices again. During the price hike these oil companies showed record profits. RECORD PROFITS. They lost nothing. But we still paid.
Natural gas and home heating: subsidiaries of these same oil companies that showed such huge record profits will be charging 50% more for gas this year. I suppose I should be "thanking my lucky stars" for that as well.
All I have is contempt, huh? You sure got that right.

Last month some people on GLP were talking about these highly efficient space heaters that supposedly really lower your heat bill. They sell for $79 USD. I wonder if anyone has tried them out yet?

QUICK FACTS

Efficient: The Econo-Heat electric heater is a slim panel that mounts to a wall with small spacers. The resulting air gap formed between the back of the electric heater and the wall provides tremendously efficient convection heat.

Economical: The Econo-Heat electric heater uses less power than the average computer (400watts) yet one Econo-Heat electric heater can easily heat an average sized bedroom (10ft x 10ft room with adequate insulation). They cost about 3 cents per hour to run based on the national US average power cost of 8 cents per kilowatt hour.

Safe: The Econo-Heat electric heater has no exposed heating elements and has a safe surface temperature that will not burn the skin or other materials.

Slim: The Econo-Heat electric heater is a slim, discreet and stylish panel measuring 24inches x 24inches with an overall depth of 1 inch.

Versatile: The Econo-Heat electric heater can be painted to match any decor and can be mounted against any type of wall surface.

Ok maybe i overreacted to this line....

"Car gas is lower than it was last spring now.

So what happened to all the horror predictions? Will they still come or did Bush or someone pull something off till we are safe for the fuel for winter?"

---but if we make it through this winter with reasonable gasoline prices and heating oil prices then we were surely lucky. Nature can do A LOT worse to us than she did ...that is for sure.

Its just hard to tell sometimes who is being sarcastic and who isnt ....i apologize to those who were being serious

This is an interesting subject--a fiend of mine just built a house==and only filled --his oil tank--1/4 full--with the rest of the oil money -he and a friend of his bought these "infra red" heaters out of Canada---it looks like a console --has 4 of those bulbs--the kind that restaurants use to keep food warm and 2 little fans inside--it is costing @3-4 cents a KW WITH THIS-as opposed to 7/8ct with the other-He heats the house up to 60-65 with his oil burner turns it off and uses the "infra red" . i did not ask him what they cost but he said they would more than pay for themselves in one winter--The replacement for a bulb is $24 bucks---it produces a real dry heat and the fans disperse it real well.
