I read that these ships bend in those sea conditions. If that goes on for to long, the boat just my come apart.. |

Thinking about being a coxswain going up and down in those waves, and as long as you could get plucked out, when that Whaler gets filled with water, might work Last Edited by LOVE GLP on 05/13/2012 10:17 AM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 2326683 United States 05/13/2012 10:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ships try to avoid storms like this at all costs but they do sometimes get caught in them. These freighters are designed to withstand this sort of thing. I am a licensed Master and have been in 40 foot waves but I gotta hand it to these guys. Problems arise when you lose one of your engines. If the ship can't power into the seas then she will turn sideways and most likely go down. Other problems are sea sickness. The motion in these storms is like a roller coaster that goes on for hours or days. Sometimes a week or more. If a sailor can't hold fluids down then they run the risk of dehydrating and dying. I remember one storm where I tied myself into bed so I wouldn't get thrown out. I could feel my intestines sloshing around and pushing against the side of my body. I have also seen things like coffee mugs float in mid air. Anyway... Cool post. |

Does the patch behind the ear help in those seas? or do you need an IV in the end. What do you guys use for sea sickness ? |

Incredible. You need to get an account and share your experiences with us. I am embarrassed, showing my age I guess-(only 45 but wow that was a bad one! lol) you have an account and I gave you karma. Must have gotten side tracked for a split second. That's all it takes anymore haha! Thanks for the one in return too. At any rate, I want to go out to the deep sea now. We just moved to FL. maybe someday I will get to. Not that I could withstand what you have, but I would like to experience being far away from shore. It would, I imagine not be too unlike being in space, maybe at the edge of the atmosphere before going into deep space. I just feel the ocean is another area I would love to see further explored. Quoting: starrynytes Thanks for posting this. Thanks That is really what it is. This way some of the energy is transfered athwartship into a beam roll rather than taking it directly on the chin. |
