For what it's worth: ALOT of Gay people are genuinely pissed-off at being used by Obama to shamelessly suck up their votes [and MONEY]- only to do yet another flip-flop after the elections and conveniently forget his "support." Us oldsters see THROUGH his masquerade and don't like it one bit. We've been there before and have very long memories.

Further: if a truly non-biassed poll were taken among the American Gay communities, you'd find most of us are really ambivalent regarding gay marriage. We really don't give a shit and just want to live our lives without all the hassles that are artificially created by the media, churches and social politics.

Heteros may not recall a really vocal, nasty group of Gay activists from several years ago that called themselves ACT UP! - these were the Butch Queens who would loudly blow whistles, chant and disrupt urban environments where/whenever they could - [churches were a favorite hotspot]. But: they were a small, highly-organised group of people who did NOT represent the Gay community as a whole - And, of course: the MSM zeroed right in on them as if they did [even earning a TIME magazine cover for their efforts]. These are the same activists now agitating for their current cause. They're just older and wiser now... and have even more disposable income to further their agenda. And YES: it IS an agenda.

Equal rights for all is a noble cause - but, as the OP pointed out - NOT when it infringes upon someone else's pursuit of happiness. PERIOD.

You have to remember that -for alot of our community- being Gay is ALL they have. They breath, eat, sleep and live being Gay 24/7 - they simply cannot function outside their own little comfort zone - and when they try, they only irritate everyone around them with their incessant carping about "Gay this... and Gay that..." - I've been watching these people for decades, -and as trite as it may sound- some of them are my best friends. But I pity them for their narrow-mindedness as they jump on other people for their own. It's a vicious, endless circle that accomplishes NOTHING in the end.

As far as the poltical purpose? It's all about the MONEY. It always has been and always will be. Gay people DO have more money to spread around because we don't have the usual family financial burdens that married life brings. That's the REAL puzzler for me: my misguided Gay brothers and Sisters are so wrapped up in being socially accepted that they are willing to sacrifice the freedoms that a single life supplies. SORRY! I WON'T... I'm too old and selfish to give up my comfortable lifestyle for a few imagined "rights".

I am gay and hate being used as a politcal pawn, too. I don't really care about gay marriage, that's an issue for people who are LOOKING for an issue. I live with my partner and we are both successful at work and in our private lives. We don't need the Democratic Party or anyone else to speak for us - we speak eloquently for ourselves. We also know when it's prudent to shut up, and that's a skill that many people people - gay or straight- no longer seem to have.

I believe that the country is falling apart beacuse of the right/left split, NOT because of gay marriage. Too many people are brainwashed by the parties. They've lost all common sense.

We need fiscal responsibility and a government that stays out of our private lives.
