Re: Facebook has to go public and may soon cost you money!!!
I don't know what the people do in your neck of the woods, but I have never (and will never)"hookup" with anyone on FB.I will not pay for it, though. 9/10 of my FB friends are friends/acquaintances in real life. I rarely add anyone I dont know IRL. Sometimes I will make an exception if I see someone who really has interests in common, or are part of a FB group devoted to blogging/discussing things I find interesting, but for which no local IRL group exists, like philosophy and politics. It is also useful for grassroots organising and raising general public awareness about political issues or elections they need to participate in. In fact I am surprised they haven't disabled people who use it for that. If they flirt with me or try to initiate sextual relations, I ignore and delete them. There is more to life than sex, you seem fixated on it, if this is your experience with FB then your friends are trashy and unscrupulous. I moved away from my childhood home, an it is a good way to stay in touch with people you already know IRL!! Have you considered these uses for FB? I don't see how I am an attention whore if I am using it for these things, I also spread news around, for those who otherwise don't watch it.

Before you label it a hookup site, consider the other uses of this networking site. People who use it as a hookup site are scum IMO. It is good for people who have their own small businesses to promote and a limited budget, I have made money off of it. It is also good to announce parties/events to people without having to call them all individually.

But I have to admit, I really hate the direction the internet is moving in, and our loss of autonomy as our whole culture is packaged up and sold. The internet was the greatest repository of knowledge (and garbage too, just use your powers of discrimination) since the Library of Alexandria, and the corporate interests are burning it down with relentless advertising. Its gotten to te point where it takes 5 minutes for a page to load, because it gets hung up on the ads,,and the code on a lot of sites I've noticed seems to be written to force scroll you to the part of the page with ads. The whole page then reloads every minute so as to provide you with up to the minute ads, which backfires because the page gets stuck, and the info/ad ratio is way off now. Then I just close the window and remember not to give them any clicks.

Don't be a retard. Facebook is causing a record number of divorces.

Everyone is looking for one thing on there; love.

Its for attention whores.

Lots of people with real lives don't have facebook accounts.

Everything you need to know about the Facebook IPO (FAQ)

CNET takes you through one of the biggest initial public offerings in history -- explaining along the way why the average Joe might not want to get caught in the hype.

If you're not already talking about the Facebook IPO, you soon will be.

The social networking behemoth is set to go public in one of the largest initial public offerings in history on Friday. The event marks the rare intersection of Wall Street financial geeks, Silicon Valley techies, and everyone in between that uses the networking service. Given Facebook's ubiquitous nature, expect everyone and their uncle to have an opinion on it.

Facebook amends IPO filing: Mobile a growing problem

The changes to its SEC filing come while Facebook execs and bankers are doing the IPO roadshow, trying to sell investors on a $96 billion valuation.

It's too early to tell if that will work, and Facebook is forthcoming about its desire to favor "user engagement over short-term financial results." In other words, it's going to be careful when it comes to pushing certain features onto people's phones and tablets.

"As an example," Facebook writes in one of today's additions, "we believe that the recent trend of our DAUs increasing more rapidly than the increase in the number of ads delivered has been due in part to certain pages having fewer ads per page as a result of these kinds of product decisions."

agent

Hm... Mr anderson... No facebook?

Hm... so what are you HIDING?

..

Just kidding, fuck facebook.

theres too much governmnet and banker involvement for it to be trusted; same with all the other big corporate sellouts, like google, youtube.

They start out like thre "good guys".. a grass roots technology breaktough by kids who are acting in good faith, like gates/jobs etce tc

then they get corrupted, they become corporate villainous and UNTRUSTWORTHY.

It is clear the purpose of facebook.

The remove the advantages of annonymity.

The reduces the threat against the elite, in fact it makes the people LESS secure. It makes the people subjects of the elitist controlle dgovernment.

Once your on there, you cant get off.

Once everyone is IDENTIFIYABLE, there is no longer a threat to the financial dictatorhsip.

unfortunately, people will realize this too late.

and all those parents that let or encourage the children to be on facebook too. But then again, they have census records, phone books, and the post office info available to.
What is the difference, it is an invasion of privacy that they can only do because of the Patriot Act.

If you are doing a business then you should pay for an advertising fee, not the common community of users.

Re: Facebook has to go public and may soon cost you money!!!
Deleting my FB is something I don't regret at all. I've also found 100% of people that I mention this to have replied to me the same. When giving my reasons as to why I did... I get the same response I used to give as an excuse...

"I just use it to keep contact with my friends or family members that live in another state or country." Same answer every time. An excuse is all it is. Trying to justify while in agreement with me. So, that's what their answers are to me. Excuses.

I've found a forum such as this one, is more beneficial in many ways. One is, I don't need an excuse to use it. There are a lot of helpful people here and good information can be found often. Great insightful people and people keeping each other in-check on various topics.

Why does FB refer it's users as users instead of members?
Why be a slave user that enables and promotes greedy ethics?

FB should return to their 'users' a percentage of their profits in return for posting so much and generating the traffic to convince the advertising buyers to buy in with confidence.

The main users on FB is FB itself. Using their users.
It's clear to me they don't want or need any more members.

Re: Facebook has to go public and may soon cost you money!!!
I reconnected with family on fb I thought was so distant we could never get it back together. Fb isnt all duckface and muscle poses. There are lots of pet videos and funny, happy friendly shit, too. :P Oh, and the games, the games..... they may be less interesting to most than xbox but, to each their own. It all wastes time. I made the fb years ago and ignored it until family popped up, so its been a great thing for us.

Its what you make of it, just stay away from teenagers and let them have their fb friend circles otherwise the fb stereotype actually exists. But its not all of fb, especially now that its not just for those in college. It seems BETTER now that a wider variety of people are using it actually. If you hate fb........ why be on it? I have reconnected with family, made new friends that became real life friends, got to share more of my far away friends lives than I ever would have been able to before....... wtf most people are just using fb wrong. :o

However........ Im not going to pay for it. Ill lead an exodus of my fb friends elsewhere if that happens.
