my folks have an SX4 and they love it.

I've driven it a few times, great driving car, nice and solid, good power, the clutch is a bit short and takes some getting used to..

fun little car, handles great in AWD mode, and SUPER INEXPENSIVE for what you actually get in the car!!

it has great handling, lots of power for a small car, great MPG great durability(timing chain not gay timing belt), great functionality, etc, etc, etc.

oh bs......my 85' subaru gl 1.8 4x4 (not awd) will leave that piece of shit sitting and i will go back home and get my 02' Outback and do the same.

My Outback is peppy but still good gas mileage - I have no issue with the mechanicals. I actually bought it because I liked the rubber mats and the dog cage in the back. What I don't like is the lack of visibility and the fabric on the seats (making me wish I had sprung for the leather). The seats are very light fabric and even the smallest crumb makes a spot the size of a quarter. Thank God for Spot Shot.
