Most of a BoB's contents are cheap and can also be assembled by yourself. There are only a couple of items that require more cash as one gets what they pay for.
A good knife is such an item as is a multi-tool. Buy quality and relibility for these two items.
The priorities for survival are: Shelter, Water, Food, & Heat. Shelter: a 1 or 2 man tent, a tarp, etc. A 35gal trashbag makes a raincoat. Water: purification tablets and a canteen, a pot to boil water in, coffee filters or bandannas to strain the water first, etc. Food: canned meats and dinners-Spaghettio's, chili, beef stew, chicken & dumplings, MRE's, trail mix, beef jerky, etc. Heat: a candle, firesteel & cotton balls permeated w/petroleum jelly or dryer lint, books of paper matches from restaurants, hotels, etc., kitchen matches in a medicine bottle, a couple of blankets, a 55gal trashbag (makes a sleeping bag with blankets added), etc.
Use your imagination. Most of what you need is probably all around you or at your place of work.
I do like having some twine or paracord, & about 60ft of 3/8ths inch of rope as well as a European type messkit & tin cup also. Add a small 1st aid kit that can be gathered together from things in your home.
