The no death, no suffering taken to Heaven nonsense is only 100 years old. What do the verses say, when is the last trump blown and when do the dead rise...? It's quite conceivable that most of the warnings He gave in Matthew 24 were referring specifically to this climax. Most of the stuff in the gospels is about the subsequent end of the old testament system, as He warned the proud corrupted priesthood that their day was over. Jesus was the ultimate Sacrifice, the temple was torn down, etc. Reading scripture with this viewpoint in mind can provide new light to our understanding.
