The outgoing temp would be less however, as the cool gets diluted by more air flow, but as air volume is higher overall, it would result in more cooling. The low fan would only feel colder at the window, but the rest of the room would be warmer, and the conditioner would cycle off more often as it reaches its cold set point, because the air around the conditioner is colder. |

Place thermostat to the coldest setting, place fan speed on low and keep the fan speed on low and just let the air conditioner do it's thing. My brother lived in a 3 story apartment facing the west with no shade. He places his digital air conditioner on 60* and he kept the fan speed on low. His air conditioner kept his place very nice and cool. He has to have the windows closed because of allergies. And with out an air conditioner, his place would be unbearably hot. |

I am trying to share this so everyone can understand how effective this way is. Let me share some basic knowledge on how an AC works...once the evaporator gets to it's coldest point the compressor kicks off so it doesn't freeze up...the system is built to maintain that maximum cold point even at high fan...at low fan it just cycles less... Anonymous Coward User ID: 14197539 United States 05/14/2012 03:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ya sure, thats fine, but......... If you run a evaporator / dehumidifier, and a small fan to blow the air around in those areas the cool air fails to move, you will achieve better cool air saturation. To big an air conditioner for the room size cools the room quicker but fails to draw out the moisture. |

Cheops User ID: 1341645 United States 05/14/2012 04:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A window air conditioner is designed to cool one room. The size of the room that it is able to cool is determined by the BTU output of the unit. A 5000 BTU air conditioner will not cool your house. In fact, it will cool only about 150 square feet regardless of where you set the fan. |

The thermostat outlet will bypass the AC unit's, and will control when the unit turns on and off. Hook up a dryer vent to the cold air and redirect the cold air to another part of the room, that way the AC is not sucking in cold air that comes out and always gets fed warm air. |
