ROUBINI: It's Time For Greece To Leave! Nouriel Roubini has a new editorial up on Project Syndicate, and his message is simple: a Greek default is obviously coming down the pike, so policymakers might as well seize the opportunity to guide Greece out of the eurozone in an orderly fashion in order to minimize the pain for everyone.

The bottom line is that the only way Greece can get back on track to competitive growth given its current state of fiscal affairs is real currency depreciation.

Roubini's recipe for an orderly exit:

Losses that eurozone banks would suffer would be manageable if the banks were properly and aggressively recapitalized. Avoiding a post-exit implosion of the Greek banking system, however, might require temporary measures, such as bank holidays and capital controls, to prevent a disorderly run on deposits.

Actually Greece can't hold a referendum parallel to elections this time. It is unconstitutional for a caretaker government to make this decision. But the Greek constitution has been raped many times the last 2 years, so what do i know.

MERKEL PULLS A PAPANDREOU: German Chancellor Likes The Idea Of A Greek Referendum On Euro Membership

According to a premier cited by Bloomberg and a tweet from Dow Jones, German Chancellor Angela Merkel now supports the idea of a Greek referendum on its membership in the eurozone.

Oddly enough, this is similar to former Prime Minister George Papandreou's proposal that Greece have a referendum on austerity measures and euro membership last November. Merkel and other EU leaders condemned this move, which would have put those economic reforms in jeopardy.

Greeks are withdrawing hundreds of millions from their accounts, with reports that the same is happening in Spain.

growth?? the entire continent of europe is fucked. and you can count the number of 'out-performing' nations globally on one hand

Of course we can't handle such a strong currency, our country is much poorer than Greece was in 2007 and almost as corrupt !

We are already in deep economic trouble ourselves, we've been living of IMF and ECB loans for years now.

But I don't think this will be an issue, we're not scheduled to join the euro until 2014...by then there will be nothing left of the euro zone or the European Union
