I know Pool, taxation is almost 50% up too, strangling, people seem to have given up hope here. Don't get me wrong, we should do cuts and austerity since things got bad, but you can't do in just 2 years things that it would normally take one decade to implement, there is a big chance of the collapse of the social web if you do all these things in just 2 years, cuts yes is understandable, but let's not kill people who for the most part had nothing to do with these policies. Even IMF stated that the program is wrong but they don't seem to want a change in it. Weird.

French PM Hollande is visiting Greece today accompanied by a business delegation. French are coming to show their political support and help 'modernize' the state but also for business, they are interested in the water privatization, real estate, oil/gas exploration and hear hear, despite the austerity they also want to sell some more weapons.
[link to www.ekathimerini.com]
[link to translate.google.gr]

France wants to loan (and in the future to sell off course) to Greece 2 to 6 FREMM frigates that French state-run warship maker DCNS is currently building, apparently DCNS is having some financial problems too and the deal would be great for them. French Defense Minister is also expected to visit Athens soon. I should add here that EU played a massive role in opposing Greece of getting 400 free tanks offered by USA using the excuse of transport expenses but they've included 11+ billions of weapons from their own industries into the bailout (lol). The frigates are part of this bailout deal.

Well, there is that casus belli, i find it suspect that they decided to go this route now that we are not exactly in our best shape tbh, not to mention that the creditors can seize pretty much everything. Lots of big players fighting for geopolitical influence right now here, we'll see how it will pan out i guess.

The European Central Bank made 555 million euros ($732 million) last year from Greek sovereign bonds acquired under its first bond-buy plan, a sum that suggests billions in profits from the program could be passed on to Athens.

The ECB's profit implies that the whole Eurosystem - the ECB and the 17 national central banks in the euro zone - could altogether have made billions from the Greek sovereign bonds.

Ok this is a crazy rain! In Athens it started at 4 in the morning with big booms every few seconds.. and it keeps on for 5 hours with the same tense. Many roads are flooded, the rivers (esp. kifissos) is close too..
This is damn crazy for us here (and for February). I really think they do something with the weather.

Greece’s austerity policies could create a crisis of insolvency within the country, undermining the very reason they were implemented – to repay the country’s debt - says the country’s biggest labour confederation.

“I am afraid that we may see a phenomenon that could cause a social explosion,” says Savvas Robolis, scientific director for the Labour Institute of the General Confederation of Workers in Greece (GSEE), the private sector’s confederation of unions. “Right now many people can’t pay their taxes. That’s why state revenue fell 300 million euros ($395m) short of January targets. If that continues, I don’t know if the state will be able to meet its obligations by June or July. It may not have the cash to pay salaries and pensions.”
