Kalispera Ostria. It is, even if the tree was originally cut in 1976 this is shameful.

My guess is that either immigrants who have no idea what it was took it or the govt did it coz there is a lot of noise and propaganda about fireplaces these days. What's your take?

I think it is probably both. Someone cut a piece without knowing what it was (was there a sign or something explaining what this oil tree was supposed to be?) and then they tried to make the most of it to push their agenda as they always do.

No there isn't a sign per se, at least i don't remember one, but it's well known, bus stop right next to the tree is called "sacred olive tree" and the metro stop Eleonas a bit further, the neighborhood is called Eleonas too, had to cross this road daily for 2 years when i was living in Chaidari years back, very shitty neighborhoods around to begin with though, but how they managed to move all this thing? Twas pretty big, sounds like an organized plan.

Useful for the govt agenda no doubt.

Seems like govt terror BS since the 'we going bankrupt, the end is nigh' ain't working anymore, a boogeyman always comes handy.

Although i had a thought today that this maybe could be connected with DEPA-Russia privatization? What do you think about this? Last time the Russians got close to Greece we all saw what happened in 2008 with Dekembriana and all. Just a theory, was surprised with State Dept stating that Greece needs to be energy diverse, when for example Germany, Finland, Turkey are more energy dependent to Russia than Greece and State Dept also doesn't usually make statements about privatizations.

The Russian offer (Sintez) can cover 1/3 of the privatization target for this year, which is 6BN, they offer 1.9 and it is 4-5 times bigger than the non-Russian offers, how can someone decline it i dunno, anything is possible with our puppets here, Russians also want the train company and the weapon industry (OSE-ELBO) when pretty much the western offers either are too low at a vulture-like level or don't care at all.
We're in trouble methinks. :(

Many companies will open production lines in Greece for both servicing the local needs and for exporting. This could bring back some job positions and make some products cheaper.
