I am no expert on this subject matter but my gut is telling me that it could be related to a local hole in the magnetosphere perhaps resulting in increased solar radiation hitting your area/region.
Aside from the plant life can you think of any effects that you might see other individuals reporting that they are feeling that could be tied to increase solar radiation leaking through to your immediate area?
Quoting: ANHEDONIC yea that's what an older gentleman in my area was telling me. he thinks its one of 3 things. 1. Solar Rad. 2. Rad. from furk. 3. chem. spraying. My intuition tells me 'solar' but like I said, I don't study these subject matters so I'm just going off my instincts and nothing else. I have heard mentions of there being isolated holes in the magnetosphere and that perhaps being the culprit for various anomalies occurring such as mass bird die offs and also even sinkholes.
