How to Transmute Negativity - your thoughts

Ok, so every time I go on to GLP I'm thinking to myself, "I'm gonna read some interesting articles and talk with some interesting people"

But then before I can do anything, I see all these posts spreading hate and ignorance and think to myself, "I have to say SOMEthing, I can't just let that crap slide."

And then the next thing I know, I've wasted 2 hours of my life in a useless back-and-forth argument. *sigh*

I consider myself a fairly smart guy, and yet I STILL manage to get tangled in these stupid battles all the time, so I thought I'd try and start something positive on here.

What I'd like to hear is people's helpful advice on how to avoid getting sucked into this crap - how do YOU personally take the negativity you feel from these hateful and ignorance-spreading posts and turn it into something good and constructive?
