Linux Mint 13 "Maya" Released
The team is proud to announce the release of Linux Mint 13 “Maya” RC.

Available in two editions, Linux Mint 13 features the choice between a productive, stable and mature MATE 1.2 desktop and the brand new modern-looking and exciting Cinnamon 1.4. These two desktops are among the best available, they’re perfectly integrated within Linux Mint and represent great alternatives to Gnome 2 users. Linux Mint 13 is also an LTS (Long Term Support) release and it will be supported until April 2017.

Thanks for the heads up. Switched from Mint 11 to Zorin a while back. Will certainly take a look at this release.

LM12 works flawlessly on my laptop, aside from the battery issue. I guess I'll set up a partition and give it a go.

Ugh, I finally get Ubuntu running like I want it to, more or less, and now tasty mint comes back to tempt me. I think I'll at least put it on a thumb drive for on-the-go computing.

Yes I noticed that zeitgeist process crap on mine also, would eventually crash my computer.

Does the Debain based Mint have the zeitgeist(sp)?

Re: Linux Mint 13 "Maya" Released
I believe there is a way to at least disable it if you do some googling eg. "disable zeitgeist" etc..

This user put it best:

[link to ubuntuforums.org]

"What does it matter if some information about what files you've opened sits on your computer?"

Easy - because 1) I didn't ask for it, 2) it takes system resources I did not allocate, 3) it keeps information that serves no practical purpose that I care about, 4) I don't know what is done with that data, i.e. is it being sent off my computer? (And don't say "trust us").

It is no ones business what files I have on my computer or what I do with them.

So it's either someone's bad idea of turning my work desktop into some mobile touch i-toy with all kinds of wasteful flash and dance that I DO NOT care a thing about ... and/or someone is collecting the data and "profiling" computer users. THAT is completely unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.

btw - I read in another post that "user's don't want to have to be bothered with whether a file is on their computer or in the cloud" --- sorry, that is utter stupidity talking. Unity and this whole virtual "the Internet is everything" mobile attitude is totally wrong for any real desktop user making a living on a computer.

It's just wrong to shove this very poor paradigm down everyone's throat and tell them "get used to it".

I'm reformatting my HD and choosing a different distro ... it seems Ubuntu is populated with people who text instead of talking to each other and believe their own marketing rhetoric.

I'm getting this. I use Linux Mint 9 LTS.

I like the LTS releases.

I still have that audio issue in VC, and not on any other site, but other than that everything is running flawlessly ;)

Checked out the Mint site and it looks as though Mate and Cinnamin are available on both the Mint 13 Ubuntu version, and the LMDE 201204 Debian Version.

Will try the Debian based this time to see if its more stable, as mentioned earlier zeitgeist was crashing my Mint 12.

The final version is available but CD installs are no longer possible---you need to burn the ISO to a DVD due its size.
