Weird behavior from the neighbor

I cannot help you but i had an upstairs neighbor years ago and every night for hours you could hear water being run or flushed and i mean 5 or 6 hours in the evening. Also this person walked across the floor in shoes again for hours didnt even seem to sit down at all. It was totally bizarre they never seemed to sit down not at all. Id go to bed about midnight and they would still be at it. No matter what room i was in. We used to hear dragging noises across the floor and i can only imagine a chest but seriously how many times would a person need to do that. She was the weirdest neighbor we ever had and we were never able to work out what she was doing. Try not to let it bother you too much i know its upsetting when people are weird like that.

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

This started for more than 2.5 years ago. To make the story short, whenever I use the faucet in the bathroom someone else starts doing the same thing. The person even starts as soon as I enter the bathroom sometimes. Sometimes this is accompanied by bangings in the floor, knockings.

One time more than 2 years ago (after this had been going on for quite some time) I heard someone shout what sounded like "drink in the kitchen dammit!". Then I decided to call the upstairs neighbor. He said it was none of his business, that he had no right to complain and that my rinsing with water didn't disturb him at all.

At the time I also mentioned I have OCD. This to explain why I wash a little more than usual. After this someone started putting shit on my bike. Not sure there's a connection.

Also directly after this the flushing could be heard again. This even if I tried to make as little noise as possible.

Since then its been over 2 years and it still continues.

I can't be sure it comes from the neighbor above but one time he told me (without me asking) that the knocking could be his dog banging a bowl in the floor.

I've also asked several times after if it disturbs him. He's always said no. Still someone starts this flushing when I'm in the toilet several times a day. This also happens in the daytime.

So I'm not sure it comes from upstairs even if it prolly does. Also it can't have anything to do with the pipes. It's irregular and increases on occasion. Sometimes accompanied by other noises as I wrote.

So what the hell could be the purpose behind this? I have my theories but I've come to the conclusion no sane person would keep doing this for so long. I try not to let it get to me but it's hard especially since I have OCD.

What are your thoughts about this?

It isn't plumming related. I clearly hear someone banging on the floor or knocking on the walls. Also that someone starts rinsing (flushing?) with water almost as soon as i enter the bathroom. It's no mechanical thing. The intensity of the flushing increases sometimes.

It is someone doing it. Ok, it could seem lile I'm the one who is insane. Surely, if I would be hallucinating I would hear something more interesting than these silly and boring things.

On thing is clear... The person doing it can't be sane. No sane person, not for any reason would keep doing this for so long.

Also I hear NOTHING from my neighbors downstars. If I were to act like some nutjob because of them I would deserve to be shot. Now, the person upstairs can hardly hear more than I hear from downstairs.

So what do you make of this madness?

Its one of two things, and im betting its the first

1. your OBSESSING about your neighbors, it sounds to be COMPULSIVE somewhat and to some degree a DISORDER. If only they had a name for that.....

2. Dude upstairs knows you have OCD and is now messing with you to see how long it will take you to crack

It's called gas lighting and you should look for pinhole cameras in your bathroom very carefully.

The intent is to make it appear you are insane. You've pissed on some powerful people along the way somewhere, perhaps with something you said or more likely something they think you have seen or are aware of. It is nearly always secret society related.
For it to have gone on as long as it has, they're not going to give up until you leave the community to take proactive measures to stop it. The feces on your bike is the statement to you that you have been marked, and riders of bikes often observe things that others on foot or motorized vehicles would never see

hmmm, crazy neighbour in yuor building. You know the only way to deal with this is to befriend them, no matter how wacky they are, always say hello to them, perhaps invite them around for a coffee. then they will start to forget their obsessive grudge they have against you and the harrassment will slowly but surely stop. no matter how wacky they are, I think you'll find any confrontational courses of action will just cause more problems. .

What does the landlord think about what you are dealing with?

The new owners I have had very little contact with. The old landlord I told about one bike (locked) that was taken in the yard and about the shit-on-bike thing. Also told him on one occasion about the choking smell of cigarrette smoke I've been getting of and on through the years. Prolly comes from a neighbor smoking with windows closed. Same guy I contacted im pretty sure...

What does the landlord think about what you are dealing with?

Also I wonder what I would benefit from understanding the behavior? The flushing/rinsing in itself is no big deal. I hardly hear it myself when I'm not in the bathroom. That's how I know that my own washing hands etc can't be disturbing to any sane person. Also that it has been going on means the person doing it must be utterly insane?

Is everybody that lives in a multiunit complex a whack job that needs to tell us about their mental issues and are they all this sensitive about the noises their neighbors make?

So what you can hear somebody else living what's the big deal?

For six months at a time I live with a dude in the rack below me that snores like a chainsaw, you learn to ignore the extra sounds and move on not whine and bitch like a little girl of 5!
