I think I just saw something similar in minnesota.
I was driving and noticed an orange light about the size of a BB, maybe slightly larger. It Didn't look like any star I have ever saw, and was muck larger.
Anyway I watched it , It then started moving slowly then faded out completely and was gone.
It was low in the East South-East sky and moved to the south.

Guess you don't watch Jersey Shore it's on the beach on the east coast. Yes I live near the beach on the east coast. Edited to add it was to cloudy to see anything but there was a red glow in the south through the haze about the time the OP said he/she seen a fire snake or whatever. I didn't think anything about it at the time. Figured it was some sort of atmospheric thing. Without any pictures or links I have to say, BS.
