Food/Grocery Doom
When to buy a roticery (sp) chicken last night and it was over 7.50. Three weeks ago you could buy one for under $5.

What's more pathetic is Ramen noodles. They used to cost pennies. Literally 5 to 7 cents. Now a multi-pack cost upwards of $2.50 depending where you live. I'm eating a lot of ramen noodles as of late.

Inflation is dramatically higher than what the government's reporting. That's why food prices are shooting up. Take a look at these charts. You'll see what the government's officially reporting versus the actual inflation number (in purple) which is substantially higher.

Jesus said in the last days that men would LITERALLY work an entire day and pay an entire days wages for one loaf of bread. ( for one meal a day)
A 24 pack of charmin toilet paper WAS $20.99 AT WALMART 2 MONTHS AGO.....NOW ITS $$24.99!!!!!!!!
Bread has gone up from $1.29 a loaf to $2.49 A LOAF!! and my dog LOVES dentastix...for a large pack they were $6.99. In 3 weeks they have jumoed to $11.99!!!! Not kewl......

Re: Food/Grocery Doom
I am feeling the inflation!! I feed myself and two young girls, and i feel the hit everytime i get groceries now. This time last year we could eat for about $125-150 every two weeks, give or take. Now it is definately over $200. I noticed cereal is expensive now. I have to wait for "sales", so i can get cereal for what it used to cost. So we dont eat a lot of that anymore. Milk is over $6 for 4 litres, so we limit that. It is cheaper to drink pop! For shame. It is cheaper to buy fries than pay $5.99 for a small bag of potatoes - and I live in atlantic canada - a stone's throw from potato farming. I have decided my next steop will be to get a deep freeze, ad start shopping based on sales only. Stock up when the prices are good. After christmas I bought three big turkeys because they were only 88 cents/pound. That is the cheapest thing! But with nofreezer i had to cook them all at once and freeze them in baggies. But for ten bucks a bird that gave the three of us four meals each, it was a perfect thing to do. The thing i don't get is: we are the consumer. We are supposed to rule the world. If everyone stopped buying things at full price, and started making a lot of noise, would the providers of food have to lower their prices? Too many people are getting rich off of me, while i fight to keep food on the table and my utilities from being cut off. It is not right. We weren;t meant to live like this at all.

political correctness is a doctrine.... fostered by a delusional, illogical minority...... and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media; which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

my father inlaw raises cattle for him and who ever in the family wants beef. He was told buy the butchers that beef may be around 8 to 10 a pound by winter. We are getting our half of beef for abit over two dollars a pound. Need more input from other people to see if this is on track for the prices.

I've used Totino's Party Pizzas as my benchmark quite a bit recently... used to be $0.89-$0.99 each within the last year - now they are $1.50+ each.

Bacon prices are terrible too.

MMMM, bacon. Unfortunately, meat eating is something we eat much less of. Maybe every other day. Typically, I've been eating more beans and broccoli. I make fruit smoothies out of frozen fruits. It's cheap and no worry about cane or fake sugars. Trying to eat less and stretch the dollars as much as possible.

However, there are those days that you have no time and order KFC. We are only human. Have not eaten in a real sit down restaurant in over a year.

OMG BAcon! Yes, the grocery store did an odd thing a couple of weeks ago. Bacon i am used to seeing lately for $4 or 5. But during a "sale" there was a cooler full of maple leaf (i think) bacon, on "sale" for $3.99, and the label said regular price $7.99. My fiance and i did a double take, and tried to figure out why it would be so pricey regularly. They weren;t double packs, organic, low sodium. Just ordinary packs of bacon. We eventually decided it must have been a typo of some sort, but i am secretly wondering if bacon prices are going to skyrocket. It seems to be how they do it for big jumps. Keep the regular price for a while, but call it the sale price. probably helps to acclimatize people.

~ Same thing in the UK, prices have literally doubled in some cases over the last year...Plus items have been made smaller!!!

The cost of utilities have continually increased; although as we all know incomes have mostly been frozen, or are forced to worked reduced hours and so on...

However, there are also some members of the local area who are obviously doing something to make profits; as they are having their homes completely 'refurbished' or 're-designed'... I'd like to knock on one of their doors (when their actually home, as most of these ones I mentioned have homes elsewhere too...), and ask, how on earth have you managed to profit so much in this time of hardship? lol

I take a whole chicken, about 3.50, and I cook it all day with spices in a crock pot. It comes out juicy and tender and it's a whole lot cheaper then the roasted pre-cooked ones.
