in the last month there have been 5 passes of objects several meters close then 1 LD and there were all discovered with in the same time period.

freaky!
and we have had a increase of fireballs...recorded fireballs this year....85%

The only way to counteract asteroids & comets is for the clever scientists to construct a MASSIVE HUGE ENORMOUS tennis racket in space.. tho' in reality.. I'd say some sort of strong gravity force will be used. Like 2 N N or S S poles of a magnet repel each other.. a material.. ? whatever it may be.. can act like a gravity repepler thingy ma jig.. I dunno

Some would say that there is a heavy mass object just beyond the Earth's ecliptic that is traveling with a companion field of asteroids and comets.

For the longest time I dismissed this assertion.

As more and more of these asteroids are coming in and they are late to be found....I'm dismissing it not so much anymore.

dunno

Wow! It seems to me there are more and more, incoming astroids, that are being found just days before an earth fly-by. Let's hope it remains a fly-by.
 Quoting: my2centsworth

I've noticed a sharp increase of incoming asteroids in 2012 as well. Hmmm...

Don't worry dude, Nasa ay's it's "fireball season", hell we always have a fireball season around march, april and may, always ,always, always had one, it's normal SINCE 2011.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1526322

... And prolly by next year, it will sound normal to have a ground impact fireball season, ho hum, every years thousands die from meteorite impact, its alswas happened, NOW GO TO WORK, PAY YOUR BILLS AND DONATE TO THE LATEST METEORITE DISASTER FUND.
HOHUM....

this is the saddest post ever, because it's true.

Here is an interesting file showing how all the outer comets and asteroids being sent in to the inner solar system and look at the rest of the animations and it appears that something is pushing them towards the Sun, or the Sun is pulling them in, either way it isn't good news. Here is the link

[link to www.minorplanetcenter.net]
 Quoting: CBO 16185841

Why did you use the old animation from 2002?
Ah yes - it fits better into your "something is pushing them towards the Sun" BS.

And why didn't you post the "Note", that explains the animation?
"NOTE: The strange behavior exhibited by the comets (a general heading inwards prior to the mid 1990s and a general heading outwards post 2000) is a consequence of plotting only those comets currently observable (as of mid 2002).
Around this date, all of the long-period comets would have been at or near perihelion. Fifty years either side of this date they are all far from the sun.
If the full cometary catalogue had been plotted, this effect would not be so noticeable as there would be inbound and outbound comets visible on each pre-2002 frame.
"

Ah yes - it would debunk your "something is pushing them towards the Sun" BS.

And here the new animation from 2011 (but that dont fit your "something is pushing them towards the Sun" BS).

Re: JUST DISCOVERED Asteroid makes close pass by Moon and Earth on May 23
I'm confused, on the page:
[link to ssd.jpl.nasa.gov]

The "solution date" in the tables (when it comes closest) shows 2012-May-22 11:50:01

I am very used to using UTC time for space things, since it solves the location time zone issues of converting time.

The page says it is local time, but I am not logged in so is this the NASA local page time?!

WTF are they thinking posting time like that!? Arggghhhh!

NASA FAIL....

Does anyone know what time zone NASA thinks "local" is? It sure isn't my time zone.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9231012

Hell. I don't know.

Barycentric Dynamical Time (TDB)?

[A relativistic coordinate time scale, intended for astronomical use as a time standard to take account of time dilation when calculating orbits and astronomical ephemerides of planets, asteroids, comets and interplanetary spacecraft in the Solar system?]
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Aloha time?
 Quoting: TheTruthWorker

First poster is not able to google.
Not NASA FAIL.... - YOUR FAIL....

Second poster is not able to read:
TDB = UTC + 1 min 6,184 sec (2009 - today its some msec more)

I know right? LOL
Possible to get smacked and all of a sudden NASA and the world conveniently forgets how to use UTC time...go figure.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9231012

The reasons why to use TDB and not UTC is explained in the above link ...go figure.

It's the ones we don't see coming that will hit us and we seem to be in a disturbed area of space right now so who knows whats gonna get thrown at us next.
