Some studies, Knapp said, place the number of collisions at 1 million to 2 million a year, causing $8 billion in damage, including vehicle repair and missed work hours." the 5th element (OP) User ID: 13687976 United States 05/23/2012 02:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dang...I spend about $100-$150 a month to feed deer (they love corn from the feed store) mainly because I really love seeing them in the yard here. Squirrels love the corn too, must have been 16 of them out there today before it rained. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4571942 It is probably GMO corn, thanks for keeping the environment natural. That is awesome you spend that much a month on deer corn, I am sure the deer really appreciate that because we need to feed them in order to keep our economy from crashing because that is what is important. |

If you are doing it to keep up the deer population and increase their antler size I think that is messing with mother nature. |

Hunters from large cities flock down here every winter to blast deer, so I wouldn't even begin to attemp to help out the wildlife population. I told you why I do it, to lure them to within 5 feet of my porch, I like having nature really close. I live wayyyy out in the woods on over 50 acres, me feeding a few deer isn't going to upset the balance of nature...nor help it. The corn could be GMO, all I know for sure is that it's grown in a small area/county near me, and the bags (that the corn comes in) are manufactured a small area in NC...so I suppose I am helping out the economy of two areas that could really use it right now. |

You do realise that deer eat GMO corn right in the fields that grow it, right? Uh...DUH mow-ron. |

WTF??? In Australia, you can kill as many feral pigs as you want, and the only thing anybody would say to you is "Good onya mate!". Why is it a crime in California to kill a pig??? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 16597413 United States 05/24/2012 02:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I saw this article about a Florida man shooting 2 deer to feed his family and he got arrested [link to www.miamiherald.com] Quoting: the 5th element "Jail records show 41-year-old Wilfredo Castillo was arrested Friday on charges of unlawful taking of doe deer, discharging a firearm from a public roadway and felony trespassing by projectile. His court date is June 11. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney." I understand it was out of season and he shot them from the road, but if he was trying to feed his family I think he has a right to feed them. I also started thinking about the Deer population and came across a wikipedia stat from 2000 stating that deer are responsible for over 200 deaths a year and over 247,000 wrecks per year. [link to en.wikipedia.org] I am sure the number is greater now than it was in 2000, due to the population increase and more building in rural areas . My question is why don't we exterminate the deer in our country that are responsible for more deaths a year than Al Qaeda? Also isn't this how the movie "Robin Hood" started, are we just peasants that cannot kill deer because they are owned by the Government? the idiot fired a gun from his car on a Florida Highway. There are LAWS for a reason. Next time maybe he can go to the Food Bank and get food like the rest of us have to do when we are struggling. |
