You can get this bacteria everywhere, seriously. I saw a video of a man who lost his face because of it YEARS AGO. He was out in the woods walking the dog. The next day he thought he had flu. Well it got worse and now he has a fake face to cover up the huge hole. There's nothing special about it. It's just one of those rarer infections. Now if this was a whole village or something then that's when I'd be worried but it's NOT.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12744807

Wait until it hits YOUR village!
Then you'll be on GLP, Facebook, Twitter, phone, text, Skype... warning people.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 454829

I don't know why I even bothered trying to talk to you bacteriatards. Look, all these 4 cases are pretty far from each other (not to mention one of them occured IN A HOSPITAL, you've certainly heard about the deadly infections in those places, eh?). Seriously, every time you get a cut there's a possibility to get some serious infection from it and flesh eating bacteria just is one of them you have to worry about. However, the chances of getting it are really low and usually it's people who have worse immune systems for one reason or another. Stop looking for doom everywhere. This disease is nothing new and it's just 4 people. If it turns into dozens in a month in a small area then that's another story. But watch this shit be forgotten and nothing bigger happening.

Just to clarify in this either/or difficulty that makes me bang my head against the wall in frustration.

Yes I saw this man's case. Yes we know this bacteria has been around.
Separate from this man's case, the number of cases are indeed much higher both in hospitals (I know of 7 personally from hospitals, especially in CA) and definitely because of BP destroying the gulf and aurrounding ecosystem over the last 2 years, there was a leap in cases within weeks of the disaster and they have been blocked out from the news.

The CDC is completely full of sh*t.

SO if you are out in the woods by the lake and you get a cut or scratch, would putting hydrogen peroxide or betadine solution on it rather quick help at all? Serious question as me and my family are going to be camping on the lake this weekend and my wife just laughs at me when I tell her about this. But I would rather be a little prepared than not at all. Also cancelling the camping trip is not really an option as the wife and kids will hate me even more than they do now.
 Quoting: Rev Mikey13

It's hard to be an underdog, isn't it? You know what I would do if I were living there? I would cancel the camping trip and insist that I'm doing it to save their lives, even if they laugh at me--or curse at me. When more and more cases evolve, they will soon notice that dad was right, and they may even be thankful that they didn't go on that trip.

Take them somewhere else and do something other than camping, if you feel a need to apease them. Tell them there'll be plenty of time to do camping later, but until we find out what is causing the outbreaks, it's a no go.

###########################################

Doctors are scheduled to amputate a Milledgeville man's leg today because it's infected with the flesh-eating bacteria. That's according to the man's son, Mike Bales of Dacula.

He said his dad, Paul Bales lives on Lake Sinclair near Milledgeville and injured his leg when he slipped and fell on his dock May 2.

Paul Bales bandaged the cut and went golfing the next day but started feeling pain in his leg.

He was admitted to the Oconee Regional Medical Center on May 5, then sent to the Medical Center of Central Georgia a week later.

Mike Bales says doctors have told the family that his father suffers from necrotizing fasciitis, the same flesh-eating bacteria that struck north Georgia student Aimee Copeland and at least two other Georgians.

MACON, Ga. -
A grandfather is hospitalized in Macon after contracting a life-threatening flesh-eating condition.

Paul Bales, 67, retired to Milledgeville, but owns a restaurant in Lithonia.

Bales suffered a cut in his leg when he fell on May 2 as he cleaned up his boat ramp at his Milledgeville house. He believed that the injury was minor, so he put a Band-Aid on it and didn't even go to the hospital.

"It was a very small cut...as a matter of fact, he just bandaged it up and then went and played golf for the next couple of days," said his son, Mike Bales.

Macon.

Is actually more like 1 1/2 to 2 hours drive from Atlanta and the CDC... depending on traffic going through the Grady Curve in downtown; it can become 2 1/2 hours drive.

[link to maps.google.com]

The CDC's advertised Address on their Website is also not their only address, and only pertains to their main Offices.

Their primary complex however, with more numerous and larger facilities and research laboratories, is located in Chamblee Georgia, right off Buford Highway and situated right off the air field of Dekalb Peachtree Airport.

[link to maps.google.com]

There is the Google Street View of the Main Gate with the big blue CDC sign, right off Buford Highway.

I drive by here almost every week. See that big White Roof off Beverly Hills Drive? Yea, thats their Main Lab. Heavily guarded with thick gates and posted security check-in on the main drive entry.

This facility is much larger then the one listed on the address on their website, and contains more of their research laboratories, and has access to the PDK Airport....

...and it is right smack in the middle of a residential area of Chamblee!

I would keep a bottle of Tea Tree Oil on hand... if there is any broken skin, put the Tea Tree Oil on right away... and then put it on several times a day for a few days, just to make sure, that any bacteria that could get into it,is dead.
You can get a bottle of Tea Tree Oil in most stores that have Pharmaceuticals ... the bottle is brown or green (depending on the brand), and about 3 or 4 inches tall by a few inches around.. not very big in size, but a great anti-virus, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal... I don't go anywhere without it.

Guys. Has anyone even bothered to look up statistics on how many cases are reported each year?

600 per year.

You can pick any weird rare disease and find a few cases here and there to report about and get people all worked up ...

This is nothing new, just a distraction to cause fear.
Look over here ... don't look over there type deal.

I'd be more worried about what else is going on that they are trying to avert attention from.

CDC doesn't give a flying fook or warn you before you die of radiation, has ok'd public dispersion of bacterium for experimental purposes, die of oil corexit poisoning, if the fish you're consuming has 12 fins/3 eyes, gmo's, roundup-ready alfalfa, the list goes on forever.

Could this infection be a mutation from Fuku? Could the flesh eating disease some how mutated to create a more lethal disease?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16420709

I am a Biology Minor, and I can tell you this may be evidence that radiation levels in the general environment have increased due to fallout from Fuku in Japan.

The threshold for immediately killing organised life forms has not been reached, but it is known that (We even did an experiment mutating bacteria with low-level radiation) radiation has the effect of mutating dna chains, which in simple bacteria such as Salmonella can actually lead to adaptations that ultimately increase the rate of reproduction. Radiation increases the rate of mutation. In general, our experiments showed a doubling of the normal rate of reproduction due to mutations in bacteria.

If that is the case, we are so screwed---and most life on the planet, except for plants, bacteria, and bugs...
 Quoting: meanderer

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 454829

The bacteria is in the gulf... radiation form japan... not a good combo.
 Quoting: Hawk-02

Could the recent change in the affects the sun has on matter decay rates and its affects on the radiation from FUKU and corexit have a common factor in this flesh eating virus?
