I looked at todays Kingergarten homework and it was ten times more material than when I was young, I was shocked. They are really pushing the youngsters these days, so there is hope.

A large quantity of busy-work does not, in any way, equate to quality.

My 3rd grade teacher was a scholastic sadist; her idea of classwork was to have the kids copy, letter for letter and symbol for symbol, random pages out of the dictionary. This took place for no less than one full hour per day.

And she GRADED it.

To this day, I will not open a dictionary. My hand cramps up at the mere thought of it.

Sounds great and I AM not sure if I will see this, but thy will be done. Every single empire from kingdom come has been torn down to its foundation in the past to build anew. It is hope and only one step on many. All my children but one are in Martial Arts or dance classes. Instead of buying a BMW or fancy boat to feed my Ego, I invest in my children's and my mental and physical health. In addition, they eat very healthy, are educated on the dangers in our societal environment and the human traps as well.

Our home is somewhat of a spiritual fortress of good souls and healthy living. The only thing I despise is the fight of being a parent against the outside world that we are forced to live in where the unawakened sheople out number the illuminated 1 million to 1.

In the end, It is simple and all starts in the home by improving ourselves and our children. If we do this over time, we will create a better world.

Take a step back and try to disengage yourself from cognitive bias. We are all, technically, in the same boat here from teachers to parents to students. What has fundamentally gone wrong with the education system is that probably a good portion of you all have never been taught to critically think. This was stripped out of classroom learning and lessons in it were reserved for the gifted program. As a college professor of mine once so astutely said, "Probably the greatest tragedy of the public education system is that most of you have never learned to think critically and, although I will try to teach you how to do so during this class, it is likely that most of you, even by the time you graduate, will never be able to learn these skills because you are learning them too late".

A lack of critical thinking skills leads to a more malleable society who can be influenced and swayed by a variety of media. Ironically enough, I've seen video games being cited as a source of the issue here by teachers and that is just yet another echo. My 15 year old son was just accepted to college and crushed the placement testing. His favorite past time is video games. What I do not allow in this household is television or radio and at every dinner, we have discussions that engage both creative and critical thinking skills since I'm well aware that these will not be taught in school.

The great tragedy is that, while all of you point fingers at this or that dependent on your media influenced ideologies, your federal government is assuring that the children within our society remain malleable. "Ignorance is strength". Such great power can be held when one can control the conversation and even thoughts of a society. If this is what they did with what is held as the top 1-2% of intelligence in America, then be very, very afraid. The very idea of what we have as "public education" is just a perversion of the idea that was once suggested by Thomas Paine. Why would they keep you so uneducated and unable to discern? If you look at history, the masses have generally been left uneducated and malleable to keep them in their place by the hands of those who held the power. Who the hell would want to be in charge of a questioning public?

so far all i learned was work as little as possible and get chocolaty wasted.
i have definately noticed that 10 years ago college was everywhere. now all of a sudden i learn it was a debt trap. and i now would need 2 part time jobs to maintain an education.
before any of you old-timers tell me about the 4 jobs you had while raising 10 kids, realize the stress you had and how you beat them when ya came home. or just plain didnt have time to raise em, now look where we are.

Then the chaotic souls could be reborn into a better society that will teach them orderly ways until we are all evolved together. I estimate some schools are really pushing it, to see what the children are capable of. Instead of play time, they are doing art and choir is emphasized more and more along with essay writing with 1st graders ! Good stuff.
