i agree with the earlier guy,

if you live in the Shit head states:

California, NY, Illinois, Texas, Florida, etc...

where it costs a small fortune to live,

MOVE,

leave those states.

Move into the states where the cost of living is lower,

and just start over.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that these things are too difficult to overcome manually anymore, and are better dealt with spiritually. If you can find a way to watch it, check out the movie called "The Secret" which explains the law of attraction. Will the techniques presented in the movie solve all your problems immediatly? No. Can they help you get the powers of the universe on your side and get you on the right path? Absolutely. I've been attempting to do the things they talk about in the movie, and so far I can say things seem to be working. This is probably the most useful advice I'm capable of giving you at this point. Good luck to ya, friend!

Re: 100 million workers out of jobs
It appears to me that there will be no real solutions forthcoming to solve the unemployment situation, which is being caused by the rapid advances, or "progress", in various sciences and technologies, especially information technologies. Since this is the case, then there will be no good outcome for a large percentage of the population. Once that portion of the population realizes that they've come to the end of the road, what will be their alternative? If the PTB knows that the end of the road is near as well what do you think they'll do? From where I sit, it appears that they have thought out well in advance what they are going to do, and have prepared for it, or even planned for it. If the reports are correct on this website about the impending attack on Iran, and the social and economic collapse that is occuring in many nations, and is apparently imminent in the US, then the outcome will not be good, for ANYONE.

Re: 100 million workers out of jobs
The job market is terrible.

There used to be pages and pages of jobs listed for any one particular skill or field, even back in 2002 when the job market was pretty damn poor. Now there are only one or two pages listed within a 100 mile radius for a specific field or skill set and most of those jobs have been there since before Thanksgiving. They just keep re-listing them and I don't think those people are even hiring because I have gone to the actual locations when I received no response from the online process of applying. The local people said they were not, in fact, hiring for the positions and did not even know there were listings out on job boards for their company. WTF?

I've been out of work for 10 months. No income for 10 freaking months!

I have a stellar work history (I was at my last job for 10 years). I have a college degree, an great references, 5 professional licenses and I interview very well.

I've had some luck in responses from applying online but have been turned down from one company because they went into a hiring freeze right as I was about to be made an offer (4 months of interviewing) and they still have the job listed on their career page even though they are not hiring for it.

A couple of other promising offers went nowhere due to these stupid personality tests which I have spent weeks researching only to find out some really messed up information on how these things are scored.

For instance, did you know that according to behavioral "scientists" that people who have empathy and concern for other people or concern for humanity, in general, are less likely (according to them) to be successful and have no drive to make money?
Who knew? WTF!!
I'm certain that I failed these tests because I answered questioned that displayed I care about other people. And despite the fact that I have a proven record of successful sales (my resume has a huge list of awards that I have received) and despite having a long history of high income in a commission only field, I am rejected because some test says peole who have compassion for others are not desirable leaders.

And it's a double edge sword because those who do not test positive for empathy are deemed to be poor team players and have a tendency to cause conflict in the work place.

So damned if you do, damned if you don't. An you can't even get your foot in the door to talk to an actual human being at most of these places until you take these STUPID tests.

I'm so fed up with this stupidity!

I need a job. I want to work. I'm highly skilled, professionally licensed, 15 plus years of experience and proven success. I have never collected a dime of unemployment. I don't want hand outs. I want a job so I can survive!

It's nothing short of genocide. People need money to simply be alive.

Re: 100 million workers out of jobs
I think what we are seeing here is a historical shift.

As the baby boomers continue to retire they will leave job vacancies to the tune of 2-3 million+ jobs/year and will then finally start using their pensions/401k's.

The economy will rise.

I saw it coming 10 years ago. Even if no new jobs are created the unemployment rate will fall because old people will get out of the job market.

Of course 10-15% of old people will continue to work as has been the historical norm.

But that leave another burden. Instead of paying unemployment benefits that money will now be paid to Social Security retirement benefits.

Still most seniors have more than just Social Security saved up and will spend that money into the general economy as the Majority of them already have their house paid off.

We will see. A lot of variable to consider.

A lot of baby boomers here in Canada, were looking forward to retiring at 55 or 60.. instead of waiting till we are 65.. Now the government is raising the age at which Canada Pension can be collected from 65 to 67.. that means having enough savings to take you another 2 years before being able to get the pension...
I've never understood this, why not get us out of the work force earlier... while we are still able to enjoy retirement? We would spend money on travel, hobbies and things that make our lives easier...Lots of spin off jobs ...
The younger generations would have the jobs we left, to apply for, at a time when they need them to raise a family, buy a home and maybe get some family toys .. again spin off jobs ...
Seems to me, this would make way more sense than making older people work longer, and often leaving younger people working lesser paid jobs waiting for the better paid jobs to open up.

I know it is doubtful that McDonald's would actually pursue legal recourse but it is still lying.

I actually think I have my head around street smarts, for the most part but admittedly I'm not some hardened thug minded person who will do anything to get what I want.

I have principals and even though I may not have much else, I still have my integrity intact and a sense of self-respect.

I guess that makes me walking target in this dog eat dog world, eh?

So be it.

There are some things that can not be taken from a person; they can only be given with consent and I have no intentions of selling my character for millions of dollars, let alone minimum wage.

Lying is not an option for me and I will accept the consequences of that decision, for better or for worse.

edit to add: I'm sure there are some rare situations that would deem it prudent to engage in lying but I think it would be a very rare and unusual situation and I would make that judgement if such an occasion arose. I do not see this situation warranting self sacrifice of my integrity.

Due to the massive increases in day to day living expenses many baby boomers are NOT leaving the workforce.

It's not unusual to see people working well into their late 60's and early 70's nowadays

It won't be getting better for quite some time I'm afraid.

Thanks and yes, I believe it is becoming rarity. I suspect the behavioral testing is nailing me for being too honest and thus kicking me out for consideration.
From all the research I have done into these tests, they do not want honest people who care about other people because some pseudo scientist claims honest people have no drive and are not successful in making money.
I'm living proof that their theory is WRONG and I find the entire theory disgusting and deplorable.

I'll PM you and thanks hf

Re: 100 million workers out of jobs
Just read in the Business Insider this morning that the actual jobless rates are quite staggering. Makes me wonder how bad this really is. So many different statistical numbers that it leads to a lot of speculation. Regardless things are not getting any better.
-----------------------------
"The national unemployment rates gets lots of attention, and lately more attention has been paid to the workforce participation rate since more Americans have given up looking for a job, but we can also see that an astounding 100 million Americans don’t have jobs.

Specifically, these are people who are part of the civilian over-16 non-institutional population who are either unemployed or not part of the workforce."

This would mean that one third of the whole American population of 300 million are unemployed.

people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close, people get laid off, they don't shop anymore, stores close,

Then one day, everyone looks around, and no one has a job. Dominoes.

correct. consumption on borrowed credit. when rofschildren and cockafeller and bankers are told to pull credit the economy shrinks.

Government is going to keep on allowing at least 100,000 people into the US to work using "Guest Visas" too! Bill Gates wanted it to be even more! Don't you just love capitalists!

Re: 100 million workers out of jobs
I think what we are seeing here is a historical shift.

As the baby boomers continue to retire they will leave job vacancies to the tune of 2-3 million+ jobs/year and will then finally start using their pensions/401k's.

The economy will rise.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15827957

It's not going to happen that way.

Many of the boomers I know aren't retiring--they can't afford to. The cost of living is too high, they can't sell their homes for a decent price in this economy (or else they still have mortgages, having taken out 2nd or 3rds during the party years of the '00s). Maybe their investments got gutted by the dot-com bubble, or in 2008, and haven't recovered. Maybe they racked up heavy medical bills not covered by insurance, and/or lost significant income during a health crisis.

Maybe they had to pay for another 2+ years of college/grad school because their previous career went obsolete/overseas, or they needed a Master's to get promoted. Maybe they have too much consumer debt. Maybe they're supporting adult children who are unemployed, or raising their grandchildren. Maybe they got divorced (especially if they did it more than once). Maybe they're among the countless people who have always made it from paycheck-to-paycheck at blue-collar, service-sector or low-level clerical jobs, who have never had enough money to put into retirement savings, and for whom a SS check will be enough to starve on.

There's a lot of reasons why boomers are taking their time to retire. Some good, some lousy, but all enough to keep them working.

The ones who are either very well off or else willing to make a drastic reduction in their lifestyles are still retiring. My mom did so last year at 67, and she's really happy with her minimalist lifestyle. She meets her share of the household expenses with her $1000/month SS check, and has about $80-100 left over for luxuries (usually craft supplies). She hasn't had to touch savings yet, and plans on going as long as she can without doing so.

Right now, my stepdad is still working at age 68 and has no plans to quit. He suffered a major financial setback in his 50s, including bankruptcy, and his retirement savings have never recovered. He gets paid well at his current job (a lot more than SS plus retirement savings), and it supports his golf/computer/gadget habit. But he also stays because he likes his job, likes the camraderie at work, and likes having to get up and show up and solve a new problem every day. He doesn't want to retire, and he's not leaving until he's either laid off or is physically unable to work.

But for a lot of middle-class boomers, simply keeping up their current lifestyle isn't going to be possible if they retire--and they don't want to give anything up. You can call them sheep all you like, but that's how they feel; they didn't spend their lives working so they could be poor in old age. To retire would mean no cruises, trips abroad, RVs, or moves to their dream home in a warm place that so many of them always assumed would be part of retirement. They've spent their entire working lives anticipating a secure (some even affluent), retirement where they can go do all the fun stuff they dreamed about while slaving away their youth. And that shit ain't happening the way they dreamed it. So they're going to keep working as long as they can.

On top of that, I think there's a lot of (justified) fear that what they have saved just isn't going to be enough, so they'll keep working, keep taking advantage of a steady income, as long as they possibly can. I know a couple of people over 65 who are doing just that.

And when they do quit? A lot of the time, their jobs are gone too. Two million retirees =/= two million new jobs.

My mother wasn't replaced when she retired; the company just divided up her work and shifted it onto employees already there. If my stepdad retires, most of his job will be divided among existing employees, and the tech stuff they can't do will either be done by a kid working part-time for $11/hour, or farmed out--probably to a firm that outsources it overseas. Their retirements have/will not have created two full-time job openings.

As for retirees stimulating the economy through spending, they need to have not only the extra money to spend in the first place, but enough confidence in the economy to feel comfortable spending it on stuff they don't need. I know retirees who worry (quite reasonably) that they're going to outlive their savings. Some of the oldest ones (such as my 92-year-old grandmother) end up having to spend their principal because SS plus their retirement interest/dividends aren't enough to cover their expenses. As my grandmother says, "I didn't expect to live this long, or for things to get so horribly expensive." And boomers who are looking after their own parents who are in this position are going to be very reluctant to retire.

That is really a huge number.

I guess we will have to wait for it to be written into a History book to call this a lie.

Well, obviously this is going to be a freaking mess. The idiot self appointed rulers, TPB and other A-hole minions seem to think, for reasons which I simply cannot comprehend, that they can somehow hold back the people with the military and police.

The problem with this concept in my view is that all of history refutes this when push comes to shove. It's my opinion that push comes to shove when men can't feed their kids. This isn't at all like the last great depression where 80% of people still lived on farms had chickens and cows and fields to grow food in. Serious miscaculations on the part of a generation of rich spoilt shits that never learned the story of the Golden Goose.

I think July is going to start to get really hot as the benefits end for millions, and once food stamps collapse the big R is on for sure.

An idiot could predict what the outcome will be, and that is why I took off the uniform I used to wear. I will neither serve them nor be a victim for them.
