Re: 100 million workers out of jobs
That would be ~30% unemployment. I think it's pretty bad out there but I don't know about 30% bad

This statistic is CIVILIAN. Therefore it does not include 1 million military personel (2009) nor the 2.4 million incarcerated (2011). While these additional individuals do not impact the percentage significantly it is important to note.

Re: 100 million workers out of jobs
I think what we are seeing here is a historical shift.

As the baby boomers continue to retire they will leave job vacancies to the tune of 2-3 million+ jobs/year and will then finally start using their pensions/401k's.

The economy will rise.

I saw it coming 10 years ago. Even if no new jobs are created the unemployment rate will fall because old people will get out of the job market.

Of course 10-15% of old people will continue to work as has been the historical norm.

But that leave another burden. Instead of paying unemployment benefits that money will now be paid to Social Security retirement benefits.

Still most seniors have more than just Social Security saved up and will spend that money into the general economy as the Majority of them already have their house paid off.

We will see. A lot of variable to consider.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15827957

Due to the massive increases in day to day living expenses many baby boomers are NOT leaving the workforce.

It's not unusual to see people working well into their late 60's and early 70's nowadays

It won't be getting better for quite some time I'm afraid.
 Quoting: Nemamiah

Many of them do it because they are bored at home and their kids never come around. I'm afraid.

There have always been people that don't leave the work force. In all actuality seniors expenses are lower now than they used to be now that Social Security has a drug benefits plan.

You people on GLP really must be the losers of the bunch. Because there are jobs. There just aren't any jobs in construction, and there wont be for a very long fucking time. If you are waiting for construction jobs to come back instead of getting trained to be a nurse or x-ray tech then you aren't keeping up with the times and deserve a life of mediocracy.

With 80 million baby boomers about to retire there is going to be a host of jobs opening up to cater to them and their ailing health.

You motherfuckers need to stop living in the past and look to the future.

That's true.

I think people are looking too much into this number. There are always going to be a certain percentage of working age population that doesn't work.

You have the losers that wont work.
You have high school students over 16, many of which don't work.

Full time college students without jobs.

Stay at home moms.

People that retire early. 60% of people retire before the age of 65. That's why you can retire at 62 if you're willing to have less benefits.

The historical norm is for 30% of working age population not working. And it makes sense.

That's just the way it is. There has never in the history of the US been more than 70% of working age people with a job. Meaning 30% without jobs is perfectly normal.

I think there has been an outmigration of 2 million immigrants as well as 5 million baby boomers leaving the work force each year.

Government is going to keep on allowing at least 100,000 people into the US to work using "Guest Visas" too! Bill Gates wanted it to be even more! Don't you just love capitalists!

The maximum they are allowed to stay is 6 years. Most of them leave after that point. So even though 100k are coming in probably 90k of them are leaving.

I believe what this number does demonstrate is how dramatic the increase has been. For example, it was "only" ~75 million back in 2000. Which is approximately a 34% increase in 12 years. Whereas the increase from 1990 until 2000 was only ~7-8%. That is fairly massive.

Also, look at how quickly the percentage goes up when you compare the: "Civilian Noninstitutional Population - With No Disability, 16 years and over (LNU00074593)"

[link to research.stlouisfed.org]

Which states ~215million available to participate in the labor force (without a disability) as well as:

Civilian Noninstitutional Population - With a Disability, 16 years and over (LNU00074597)

[link to research.stlouisfed.org]

Which states ~28million with a disability

215 + 28 = 243 million

100 million / 243 million = 41%

Sammy, Great input, I really appreciate your take on the matter, you sound like a thoughtful, compassionate, hard working person that has to deal with this dreadful downturn of economic events that is totally beyond our control.

I just got back in after doing volunteer work all day. I have no job at the moment but I like to keep busy and help out wherever and whenever I can.

I hope things get better for all of us.

Edit to add if this is simply too much for some, please...... take the time to watch Chapter 18. The visual images and reasoning is very eye opening, imho, to any skeptic and it's only about 15 minutes....you can skip to 2:25 mins into it to begin

If you ignore everything else, do not miss this one section. It's quite clear how dire our situation is and WHY there MUST be change, willingly or unwillingly.

We need Free energy research released now.
We don't need to deplete the population but, rather, the failed and unsustainable monetary system that perpetuates the psychotic mentality that holds a view of human beings, themselves, being the most expendable (least valuable) resource on the planet.

Chapter 18 here:

In reply to the post about:

I understand why you hold these convictions but may I suggest that you open your mind to the possibility that there are factors you have not yet been exposed to or considered that may make you rethink the firm conviction you now hold.

This is just a few random short clips to use as consideration. I do no claim TRUTH in them but I do see rationality in the points that are raised, and this is merely one source.

There is a lot more to this 3 hour presentation but I only wish to post a few short clips to perhaps peek your interest enough to spark some doubt and peek your curiosity to investigate other perspectives.

Overview (less than 2 minutes)

The 3 E's (Economy, Energy & Environment) 2 minutes long

*Please note: I am well are of the controversy surround these issues, especially the last two, but let's face it.... it's is what is being shoved down civilizations thoughts and if the money controller do no allow the alternatives to manifest, then we will be subject the consequences of their denial, regardless of the truth and or lies behind these claims.

Exponential Growth
The lynch pin, imho 6 minutes

*again I do not necessarily agree with his oil theory but honesty I do not KNOW. regardless of truth or fiction of peak oil (not to mention alternatives), I urge you not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Or in other words, don't lose the essence, by grasping to that particular shadow.

This is the crucial point
Below

Power of Compounding 3 minutes

Growth vs. Prosperity less than 4 minutes

Logic is a bitch

The next several chapters cover money creation and debt creation. I will not bother posting these vids since people should understand this, and most do here. So I will not repeat it, but I encourage those who are not familiar with the process to please watch these segments. They are on youtube and easily found from the links above.

The next chapters on inflation, asset vs. debts and bubbles are very worthy of watching but I will skip them here and move on to

Fuzzy Numbers (2 Parts) Part 1 less than 8 minutes

The manipulation here very eye opening and uncovers straight out LIES

Woah! Incredible . Hedonics is simply F'd up math, not merely Fuzzy

Part 2 of Fuzzy Numbers 8 minutes

Lies LIES LIES and LIARS ....wow the contradictions, reversing other lies above to make other numbers look better. Having their cake and eating it too, but no crumbs for you!

*keep in mind this video is dated and the numbers would be much greater today

Chapter 17 has 4 sections 17a (part and 2) and 17b (part 1and 2). 17c (part 1 and 2).
That can be confusing so I wanted to point it out.

I will leave a lot of it out. I believe it is crucial but it can bring in some unnecessary hot debate topics (i.e. popular controversial topics of division) and I do not wish to derail into petty crap, because regardless of it's truth or fiction, it does not determine the fact or fiction of the many unprecedented problems we are facing.

I encourage watching it, if simply for an exercise in critical thinking, especially due to the questions it raises in the critical time factor of switching to alternatives which has been ticking away and the oil needed to build the means of producing the infrastructure and then bring it to market (unless free energy is released vey very soon).

I will include 17b on Energy because it shows clearly how dire the need for Free Energy release is for human life styles and even survival.

Energy 17B Part 1 6 minutes

And the rubber meets the road

Energy and the economy 7 minutes

*May provide some insight into to global monetary crisis and political / governing crisis's around the world, specifically the clamping down on laws, rights and the ever increasing police state.

Environmental Data Part 1 : 9 minutes

Note: NOT about global warming. There is a mention of population which I personally find debatable unless we continue down this road of never ending global consumerism, waste and the necessity of ever increasing, year over year, growth. In other words, I don't think the population is a problem at all, but it will be if the world demands to continue on our current path. It's not the number of people that are the problem but the system that demands ceaseless expansion regardless of need on those people in order to earn paper to survive.

For very eye opening visual images and sound logic behind this thinking, please be sure to see the video comments that begin at about the 2:30 mark.

Thanks Op.

We all have (humanity) great challenges ahead of us and the way in which we handle these challenges will reveal the people we really are.

I look forward to positive change, which I believe is necessary for the survival of our species and the millions of other species we share space with on this floating rock that is hurling through space.

But I do not relish in the reality that with change comes suffering for so many, due to a variety of factors but mostly due to the discomfort of change, fear of the unknown and more than anything the clinging to the past and things which can not be prevented.

May compassion for others and great strength guide us all.

We have to opportunity at these great junctures in time for either greatness beyond imagination or evilness beyond belief.

We always possess the capacity for choice and some choices hold more weight than others, much more.

May we have the strength and heart to choose wisely. ommnipemehung
